Press Release

Tommy Brown Produces Ariana Grande’s Christmas & Chill EP

News: Tommy Brown Produces Ariana Grande’s Christmas & Chill EP

“We Did the Project in Four Days,” Says the Producer Who Also Worked On the Pop Superstar’s Yours Truly and My Everything Albums

12.21.2015

The News:

“Ariana came to the house and was like ‘I want to do a Christmas song, maybe three Christmas songs,'” frequent collaborator and producer Tommy Brown explains. “I said, ‘let’s do a Christmas project,’ and she was like, ‘okay!'” What transpired resulted in a surprise Christmas & Chill EP release from Ariana Grande. The team of creatives built a studio – complete with microphones, speakers, keyboards, computers – in the pop superstar’s house, where they stayed and crafted the 6-song project over the span of 4 days. “We gave her Christmas songs over trap beats,” Tommy Brown explains, adding that they brought in violin players and a ukulele player.

How’d Ariana Grande, Tommy Brown, and the team celebrate? With a trip to Disneyland. All songs on the Christmas & Chill EP were co-written by R&B singer/songwriter Victoria MonĂ©t. Having worked with Ariana Grande on her previous album releases, Yours Truly and My Everything, contributing production and songwriting, Tommy Brown and Victoria MonĂ©t are two staples in Ariana Grande’s rise to fame. Together, Tommy Brown and Victoria MonĂ©t have formed the VieTom imprint, which is branded to develop artists and songwriters.

Tommy Brown Background:

Tommy Brown wants to rewrite the music industry rulebook. The super producer, who has supplied marquee artists like Ariana Grande, T.I. and Chris Brown with boundary-shifting tracks, spent the past few years surveying the scene and witnessed how difficult it can be for up-and-comers to connect with more notable writers and producers. His solution: create the Facebook of the music community, where newer musicians can pay various price points and access exclusive instrumentals and get their music heard by a wider audience. In 2012, he signed with BMI, which in turn led to an independent production deal with Sony ATV. Since then, he’s become one of the hottest producers across genres, helming T.I.’s “New National Anthem,” G.O.O.D. Music’s “Sin City,” and four songs on Grande’s chart-topping sophomore album My Everything.

Houston Mainstay Trae Tha Truth Links With Los Angeles Rapper in “Yeah Hoe” Video From Tha Truth Album, Tha Truth Tour Kicks Off in January

Video: Trae Tha Truth ft. Problem & Lil Boss – “Yeah Hoe”

    12.21.2015

Critical Praise for Trae Tha Truth:

“More concise rhymes, insightful and diverse subject matter, and solid features show how far Trae has come as an MC and a songwriter.” – BET.com

“Houston hip-hop veteran Trae Tha Truth may not be anything to you but down in the city of Screw Juice, the Asshole By Nature is the man in the streets”VIBE

“Trae embodies everything that is Texas in an artist. He’s independent, strong and a survivor.” – SXSW.com

“Trae Tha Truth (or just Trae) is one of the more authentic artists currently operating in Texas, if not the South in general.” – HotNewHipHop

“Trae tha Truth is one of Houston’s most imposing musical forces, a bona fide legend in the harrowing streets of southwest Houston.” – Houston Press

    The Video:

Closing out what’s been a great return to form for the Houston legend this year, Trae Tha Truth shares a video for the Problem and Lil Boss-assisted Tha Truth Pt. 1 single “Yeah Hoe.” A song produced by Dnyc3 and Trent, guided by a G-Funk synth that bleeds Cali rap nostalgia, the Phillyflyboy-directed video finds Trae flexing atop the Warehouse Live entrance in East Downtown Houston. Problem checks in from Los Angeles before the clip returns to H-Town where Trae, Lil Boss, and their ABN crew mob out, backed by Cadillacs on swangas.

Earlier this month Trae Tha Truth announced Tha Truth Pt. 2, sharing the album’s first single,” Takers,” which debuted via XXL and features buzzing ATL rapper Quentin Miller. “Takers” is an instant great track with a pre-order of the album on iTunes. The second part of a two album series, Trae Tha Truth’s 8th solo album, Tha Truth 2, follows 2015’s Tha Truth, which included the popular singles “Trickin’ Every Car I Get” featuring Future and Boosie, and “Realigion” alongside DeJ Loaf. Trae will be heading out on his national Truth Tour starting on January 2016. Tha Truth 2 is slated to release Feb. 5th.

    Trae Tha Truth Background:

There are three ways to write about Trae Tha Truth. One is to talk about his music, and that’s important because he is a rapper and making music is what he does. The other is to talk about him as a human, and that’s important, because he has done some truly monumental and impressive things. The third is to talk about the intersection of him as a rapper and him as a humanitarian, because that’s where Trae really belongs. His music is often inspired by the experiences of the disenfranchised, which is rooted in the broken roads of the ghetto. It’s driven by loss, by love, by loyalty, and by when one or two or all of those things are taken away or tested of those he cares about.

Trae Tha Truth is very modest, he never talks about his guest features he’d done or any of his new tapes (Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, T.I., Nas, etc.) or how he’d landed another MTV JAM Video of the Week or how he’d signed to T.I.’s label or any of the things people were watching him accomplish from afar. What you need to about Trae is he is a rapper, who has only ever viewed rap as another way for him to help people.

Premiered by VIBE, Bangladesh-Produced Atlanta Duo Famous 2 Most Deliver Energetic Debut Mixtape

Mixtape: Famous 2 Most – Famous 2 Most

Whip and Nae Nae Originators Release Their Debut Mixtape, Executive Produced by Super-Producer Bangladesh, Premiered by VIBE

    12.18.2015

    sylvan

    The Mixtape:

Signed to acclaimed super-producer Bangladesh, Atlanta rap duo Famous 2 Most are the originators of international dance sensations the “Whip” and “Nae Nae.” Famous 2 Most rappers PJ and Hasani‘s heavily engaged Instagram following helped skyrocket their party moves into two of the year’s biggest dance crazes. While the quick rise to prominence may be surprising to some, Bangladesh feels like the whole world is finally seeing what he saw a long time ago. “I met Hasani when he was 13, and I seen his dance video and knew immediately he was gonna be a star,” Bangladesh told VIBE in their premiere of Famous 2 Most’s self-titled debut mixtape. “All I saw back then was a young Chris Brown. Years later we crossed paths again then I seen he was dancing, rapping, AND producing?! He was rolling with PJ and the chemistry was crazy.”

The release of Famous 2 Most’s self-titled mixtape follows their sharing of video singles “Too Many” and “Z.A.N.Z.” “We wanted [the video] to be super dope, fun, full of energy,” Famous 2 Most told The FADER, who debuted the rambunctious “Too Many” video where Famous 2 Most were joined by twerk team ICandyTwerkers. Prior to “Too Many,” the energetic duo shared the dizzying drug-rap anthem “Z.A.N.Z.” via AllHipHop. Famous 2 Most’s mixtape was executive produced by the Grammy Award-winning Bangladesh, whose credits include Ludacris‘ “What’s Your Fantasy,” Kelis‘ “Bossy,” and Lil Wayne’s “A Milli.” With more than 140k Instagram followers between the two of them, PJ and Hasani are determined to show the world that they each have a lot to offer. “We feel like if the whole world is this excited about that one tiny aspect of what we do on a daily bases, we know that the world is probably going to explode once they get a taste of the entire package of dances, music, fashion, and extreme partying that we bring to the table.”

    Famous 2 Most Background:

If you could take talent, add innovation, multiply it by swag and divide it by two – you would get Famous 2 Most. Together, Hasani and PJ make up the charismatic duo. Their heavy Instagram following lends weight to their name as the two are the originators of the global dance crazes “Whip” and “Nae Nae.”The group’s self-titled mixtape, Famous 2 Most, debuted via VIBE, and is accompanied by a visual for their hot new single “Too Many.” Executive produced by none other than Grammy Award-Winning, Bangladesh, the project is nothing less than an absolute banger.

Sylvan LaCue (fka QuESt) Found Himself and Love in Oakland, Hear His Story On the Evangeline EP, Debuted by Pigeons & Planes

EP: Sylvan LaCue x Fortune – Evangeline EP

Produced by Flow-Fi Collective’s Fortune, the Evangeline EP is a Story of Self-Discovery, Debuted by Pigeons & Planes

    12.18.2015

    sylvan

    The EP:

“The creation of the Evangeline EP came about fairly effortless,” Miami artist Sylvan LaCue revealed to Pigeons & Planes in their premiere of the 5-track project that they explained “shares stories of self-discovery.” Produced entirely by Flo-Fi Collective’s Fortune, who contributed to GoldLink’s The God Complex, the EP finds 25-year-old Sylvan LaCue glowing with excitement and as vulnerable as any artist you’ve heard before. “Fortune & I were going back & forth for about a week during Thanksgiving weekend earlier this year. He provided the soundtrack to the story I wanted to convey. I cut four of the songs in a matter of a week, and pulled together ‘First Flight To Oakland’ the day before the EP was scheduled to be released.”

Formerly known as QuESt, Sylvan LaCue teased the Evangeline EP earlier this week with the “Caravan 04” single, featuring Linzi Jai, which debuted via Complex. “It’s clear on his latest track ‘Caravan 04’ that LaCue is finding inspiration in the right places,” they said. “The craziest thing about evolution is that you never see it coming,” Sylvan LaCue expressed in a recent journal to his fans. Last year Sylvan LaCue abandoned his deal with Visionary Music Group, which required him to focus on his career alone. After falling in love during a trip to Oakland, he decided to start going by his real name, Sylvan LaCue, with the QuESt alias having become more of a character that he was growing out of. Learning to embrace himself helped Sylvan LaCue explore his artistry even further, as he began working on music with a group of producer friends. Titled after his aforementioned girlfriend, the Evangeline EP is both a post-Far From Familiar story and a prequel to an album slated for early 2016.

“The TGOD rapper hasn’t stopped grinding…” – HotNewHipHop

“He’s proven that you can make money without selling out to a label, gaining more than 300,000 followers on Twitter and 67,000 downloads of his mixtape, Gangland 3.”Pittsburgh City Paper

    The Song:

Taylor Gang Ent. rapper Chevy Woods is closing out what’s been a breakthrough year with a bang. For his newly released “56 Grams Freestyle,” the Pittsburgh native takes over Future‘s Southside-produced “56 Nights” single. “We’ve seen Chevy go further and further down the trap rabbit hole, and this might be the most trapped out he’s sounded yet, ad-libs and all,” states HotNewHipHop. “This was a big year for me dropping The 48 Hunnid Project, my first official release,” Chevy Woods says. “The fans reacted so strongly with their support that I wanted to give back in the form of a few freestyles to close the year out. I can’t reveal exactly what’s in store for 2016 yet, but all the Taylor’s should know that we have some big things in the works.”

In November, Chevy Woods teamed up with producers Ricky P. and Ghetto Guitar for “Fucc Up the Face,” a loose single debuted by VIBE that continues to heat up the clubs. The song followed Chevy Woods’ The 48 Hunnid Project, which released in August, boasting collabs with DeJ Loaf, Post Malone, OG Maco, Rico Love, and Wiz Khalifa. The 48 Hunnid Project was a monumental release for Woods – it was the first retail release for the Pittsburgh rapper who’s carved his niche as a mixtape king. Back-to-back visuals for Wit Me with Rico Love and the Post Malone and PJ-assisted “Getcha Somefollowed previous video releases from the project for “Now That I’m Up,” the i-D-premiered “All Said and Done” featuring Dej Loaf, and “48 Hunnid,” which debuted via Yahoo! Chevy Woods Background:

Chevy Woods has been building up momentum with his mixtapes Red Cup Music, The Cook Out, and the Gangland series, progressing his sound with each release. After years of writing and recording in his home studio, Chevy traded in his keyboard for cash to pay for studio time. In 2004, while recording at Pittsburgh’s I.D. Labs Studios, Chevy encountered Wiz Khalifa and the two instantly formed a bond. “Me and Wiz, we always had each other’s backs. Since we were both recording at I.D. Labs at the same time, we would hold each other down,” Chevy has explained. “Even if it was just picking up Wendy’s for the other one on our way to the studio.”

MP3: Felix Snow x Dominique Young Unique – “Touch That”

The NYC-based Producer/TDE Collaborator Teams With Rapper to Deliver Loaded Track, Premiered by The FADER

    12.17.2015

    felix snow touch that
    Critical Praise for Felix Snow:

“The next pop sensation? Don’t bet against Felix Snow.” – Clash Music

“Be on the lookout for Snow in some of the production credits of your favorite artist.” – EARMILK

“Felix mixes in beats that are both crisp and sharp.” – Hillydilly

    The Song:

Just in time to turn up for the holidays, LA producer and frequent TDE collaborator Felix Snow is dropping “Touch That” with rapper Dominique Young Unique. The thumping track, which premiered on The FADER, impresses with sharp snares, synths, and booming kicks. “I fucking fell in love with it off the bat,” Felix Snow explained. “Dominique’s got such a raw venom when she raps it’s infectious. Had to flip this one out…”

Known for his glimmering work with SZA and singer-songwriter Kiiara, Felix Snow has a knack for finding and working with incredible talent. On his debut single “Slow,” he recruited the vocal talents of a relatively unknown 16-year-old Madi, turning the track into what The FADER called a “tightly wound anthem about taking it slow… fizzes with big drops and pitch-shifted choruses.” Hailing from the West Coast via Connecticut, Felix Snow is a DJ, producer, and writer ready to make waves in the new year. Fans can expect more heat to drop in 2016 as he’s been crafting a solo project which will be released through his own independent label, EFFESS Records.

    Felix Snow Background:

“So different. So original.” Fingers twisted repping the West Coast and donning trucker hats, DJ, producer and writer, Felix Snow is looking to shake things up one track at a time. While wearing funky glasses and posting outlandish memes for the 90’s kid in everyone, Felix has remixed major label artists from Tinashe, Bebe Rexha, and Bad Suns, to delving into original cuts with everyone from Mr. Hudson and Jess Glynne to Leona Lewis and Christina Aguilera. Though young, he is fast becoming the producer to watch with a portfolio as diverse as his musical influences – extending the spectrum from Genesis to Fleetwood Mac to Jersey Club.

The LA transplant originally from Connecticut graduated from the prestigious Clive Davis Music Program at New York University. Upon his arrival to Los Angeles, the Warner Chappell publishing signee invented a new sound with first lady of TDE, Sza, where he created the evocative yet beautiful stylings of “Pray”, “Ice Moon”, and “Castles”for her critically acclaimed EP “S”. When talking about her work with the Felix, the songstress states, “He’s completely not the textbook producer.” Aside from breaking the rules with your favorite artists and making sure his Tamagachi and Giga Pet stay alive, Felix has been crafting a repertoire for a solo project he’s releasing through his own independent label, EFFESS Records. The project slated for release next year.

MP3: Sylvan LaCue – “Caravan 04” ft. Linzi Jai (Prod. by Fortune)

Premiered by Complex, the Miami Artist Releases First Single from His Evangeline EP Releasing This Friday, 12/18

    sylvan

    The Song:

Miami artist Sylvan LaCue, formerly known as QuESt, shares “Caravan 04,” the first single from his forthcoming Evangeline EP. The glowing tune premiered on Complex, who said “it’s clear on his latest track ‘Caravan 04’ that LaCue is finding inspiration in the right places.” Featuring Linzi Jai, “Caravan 04” finds Sylvan LaCue revisiting the intimate moments of meeting the girl that helped him find himself. Produced entirely by Flo-Fi Collective’s Fortune, who produced on Goldlink’s The God Complex, the 4-track Evangeline EP is a prequel to Sylvan LaCue’s forthcoming album slated to release in 2016.

“The craziest thing about evolution is that you never see it coming,” Sylvan LaCue said in a recent journal to his fans. Last year Sylvan LaCue abandoned his deal with Visionary Music Group, which required him to focus on his career alone. After falling in love during a trip to Oakland, the 25-year-old Miami-raised artist decided to start going by his real name, Sylvan LaCue, with the QuESt alias having become more of a character that he was growing out of. Learning to embrace himself helped Sylvan LaCue explore his artistry even further, as he began working on music with a group of producer friends. Titled after his aforementioned girlfriend, the forthcoming Evangeline EP is the calm before the storm in 2016.

Houston’s Maxo Kream and Atlanta Rapper Key! Team Up for Drug Dealer’s Anthem “Out the Door,” Debuted by Complex

  • Press Release

Houston’s Maxo Kream and Atlanta Rapper Key! Team Up for Drug Dealer’s Anthem “Out the Door,” Debuted by Complex

MP3: Maxo Kream ft. Key! – “Out the Door” (Prod. by Wolfe De Mchls)

The Houston and Atlanta Rappers Team Up for a Drug Dealer’s Anthem, Debuted by Complex

    12.15.2015

    Critical Praise for Maxo Kream:

“This new Maxo Kream project might be one of the best things 2015 currently has to offer.” – HYPETRAK

“Over the last couple years, Maxo Kream has established himself as one of Houston’s most exciting young rappers by way of being one of Houston’s least traditionally minded artists.” – Noisey

“A sinister and visceral portrait of Houston street life.” – Pitchfork

    The Song:

Houston motormouth Maxo Kream made splashes earlier this year with his MAXO 187 project, and now he’s back with a collaboration with Atlanta rapper Key!, “Out the Door.” Produced by Wolfe De Mchls, “Out the Door” is exactly as it sounds – Maxo boasts about selling drugs, all you have to do is ring his doorbell. “I made the song just being tired of roachin’ ass niggas in my trap spot, the ones that try to smoke all your shit before they go home and smoke their shit,” Maxo Kream explained to Complex, adding that the session was done on drugs in an L.A. studio. The Houston-bred Crip-turned-rapper goes “from a one to a metric ton” before he passes the baton to Key! for the song’s second verse.

Maxo Kream previously released the ELEVATOR Mag-premiered video for “Issues,” a bonus cut from Maxo 187, which Complex named One of the Best Albums of 2015. The video followed another collab with Fredo Santana, “Big Homies,” a loose single that the duo released over summer. Released in March, Maxo Kream’s Maxo 187 also includes features from Joey Bada$$, Lamb$, The Sauce Twinz, Father, and LE$. “The record is a sinister and visceral portrait of Houston street life,” said Pitchfork in their review, while Passion of the Weiss named it their Album of the Month. “Maxo Kream has established himself as one of Houston’s most exciting young rappers by way of being one of Houston’s least traditionally minded artists,” stated Noisey in their premiere of Maxo 187. “This tape is a perfect encapsulation of the sound of hip-hop’s rapid synthesis of styles in the Internet era and the way the genre’s new underground heroes are bridging aesthetic and regional gaps,” Noisey said, adding, “more importantly, it is also fucking cool.”

    Maxo Kream Background:

Upon meeting him, gangsta rapper isn’t the impression that most would get from buzzing Houston emcee, Maxo Kream, age 23. He has a surprisingly goofy and playful demeanor, often cracking self-aware jokes and displaying a smile with showcases either his gold grin or his trademark gap in the upper row of this teeth. But, make no mistake, Maxo’s backstory is a tale consisting of crime and death that would catch the attention of the most jaded followers of gangsta/trap rap.

Inspired by his college trip to SXSW and the fact that other street cliques throughout Houston such as FDAB (founded by late rapper T.O.Y, a childhood friend and Crip associate of Maxo) and MashMode (which has now resulted in the buzzing careers of Houston rap duo, The Sauce Twinz) were transitioning into music as a form of expression, Maxo and his younger cousin Lyndon (rap moniker Lyndo C), jumped into music. Now, front and center is Maxo Kream’s sophomore project, #Maxo187. With big name features and outstanding production, Maxo intends to show that he can compete with any emcee in the game.

    The Video:

Atlanta singer/songwriter Verse Simmonds (credits: Justin Bieber, Usher) teamed with fellow ATL hitmaker K Camp for their sultry “Mona Lisa” visual, which premiered today via Billboard. The Virgin Islands-born and raised artist finds perfection in a priceless one-of-one that he deems the latest attraction – the “Mona Lisa” – of his own artshow. K Camp quickly shows he’s also a man of the arts, comparing himself to Picasso and Michelangelo. The audio of the track premiered earlier this year via Complex, who said the “final result is an infectious R&B turn-up track that has club anthem potential and should easily get fans ready for what Verse Simmonds has coming in the near future.”

“I’ve known K Camp for a few years now. He’s one of my lil bros in the game – I been rocking with him before things started taking off for him so we have always been good,” Verse Simmonds previously explained to Complex. “I sent the record off to Camp to record his verse while was in the road and I believe he recorded his verse in his hotel room. Nonetheless, he had it back to me by the next day!”

Earlier this month, Verse Simmonds shared a dancehall remix to his “Situationships” single, which debuted via LargeUp, after being featured on tracks including Kid Ink‘s “Diamonds & Gold” remix alongside Chris Brown and French Montana, and Gucci Mane’s Trapology stand-out “Ass Everywhere.” Verse Simmonds has been sharing infectious tracks all year, including the Jeremih-assisted All I Want.” A go-to writer for Chris Brown, most notably contributing to his songs “New Flame” and “Drunk Texting,” Verse Simmonds is also a frequent Gucci Mane collaborator in addition to being credited as a writer on K. Michelle’s “Hard To Do” and Fifth Harmony’s “Top Down.” With an impressive track record, the multi-faceted Virgin Islands-born artist has shown that his songwriting for others can just as easily be translated into hits of his own.

    Verse Simmonds Background:

Verse is in a league of his own, and called on by the best to create hits that resonate from now, until forever. No matter what he accomplishes or encounters, Verse will remain faithful to what he has been called to be, a game changer. He has worked with Jay-Z and Kanye on the Watch The Throne album, receiving a Grammy nomination because of that. He has also been called on by Justin Bieber, R. Kelly, Chris Brown, Young Jeezy, TLC, and numerous others. “My goal is to be remembered as the one who gave 100%. I want my music and anything I touch to resonate forever. It is my desire to take people back to a time, or evoke forgotten emotions, when they hear my music, because it’s so raw, honest, and real. I simply want to go in the books as one of the greatest,” is how he describes what he envisions his legacy to be. With his hands in a little bit of everything, from behind the scenes to front and center on stage, his impact will be felt all over.

“We have a feeling this is only the beginning of a long-term career of stardom for Mr. Edwards.”WatchLOUD

“At 19-years-old he shows not only a remarkable talent, but an exceptional passion and drive with a set of unlimited skills.” – GoodFellaMedia

    The Video:

Says Yahoo, “Compton is known for a number of top hip-hop artists – N.W.A., Game, Kendrick Lamar, DJ Quik, among others – but it’s time to add an R&B singer to the list. Gemaine, a 20-year-old vocalist could be the one.” Today, Gemaine is proud to release the first video from his recently released Curious EP, “Let Me In.”

Compton singer Gemaine may only be 20 years old, but his debut EP Curious explores relationships, heartbreak, and healing with soulfulness beyond his years. With a soaring voice that combines technical chops with passion and versatility, Gemaine takes listeners through his journey with his first body of work, as he falls in love, experiences the downfall of a relationship, and picks himself back up.

Although Gemaine is new to the scene,  for the past year and a half, he has been building a steady buzz, starting with the song that ignited his career, “Freaky.” Originally recorded as a 6-second Vine video, the snippet spawned thousands of re-Vines, spurring him to create a full-length version, which has amassed almost 3 million Soundcloud and over 4,000 new plays daily on Spotify. The newcomer has been immersed in music for as long as he could remember, spending most of his free time singing and making music at his church. A self-taught pianist, Gemaine is looking to do more with his talents than just sing. His goal is to create music that “makes people feel good and becomes an escape from their problems.” Gemaine’s debut EP, Curious, is now available.

Underground ATL Rap King Yung Ralph Drops I Am Juugman Album, Premiered via The FADER

    The Album:

A pioneer of the new Atlanta sound, Yung Ralph releases his album I Am Juugman, a project presented by DJ Greg Street, DJ MLK, and Swamp Izzo. “My role in Atlanta music has been to uplift the ones going through the struggle,” the rapper told The FADER in their premiere of the album. “To deliver the message that no matter how hard it gets you can make it happen, just don’t quit. I learned what’s up can come down and what’s down can come up in this game, so remember it never happens when you want it to, only when it’s time to. With the I Am Juugman project I’m just reaching back out to my loyal fans and supporters letting them know that it’s been a long time coming. Everybody don’t get a second chance to do it bigger than the first time, so this project is a lil snack for my fans and a reminder that the Juugman aka Yung Ralph is still here. And it’s also just the beginning of a new beginning.”

The underground king Yung Ralph has been garnering mainstream attention in recent months for the Fetty Wap-assisted “Act A Fool,” with the audio debuting on The FADER and the video on WorldStarHipHop, and also his Young Thug collab “Bands” which premiered via Noisey. The ATL emcee’s inimitable voice and heavy sound has helped him gain traction for his latest album, with HotNewHipHop saying that Yung Ralph “is one to look out for… as he boasts a unique, gritty flow.” For many, including Kevin Gates, it’s Yung Ralph’s rhymes that stick. Yung Ralph’s lyrics are genuine, honest, and impactful, filled with gems share a story of someone that’s dealt with a significant amount struggles and successes, with humility and loyalty being his pillars for life – as is evident in “Everyday” which was debuted on Passion of the Weiss.

Yung Ralph first turned heads with his regional hit “Look Like Money” in 2007 via Universal Republic. A frequent collaborator of Gucci Mane and Zaytoven at the time, a short list of highlights to follow includes having teamed up with Nicki Minaj in 2010 for “I Bought That,” releasing his Juugin’ Round the City mixtape in 2013, and most recently being featured on Rich Gang’s “Ridin” as well as Young Thug‘s Slime Season stand-out “Rarri” – Thugger actually shouts him out on “Stoner” with the lyric “I’m back at it, Juugman voice,” in reference to Yung Ralph’s “Back At It” single. His newest album, I Am Juugman, is now available for stream and purchase.

     Critical Praise for Vokab Kompany:

“A sound who’s genre goes something like hip-hop, soul, electro, funk. You have two Emcee’s who charge sped up lyrical flows; made to sound effortless… seamless synergy with their voices and their lyrics are playfully vivacious and positive… layered with creative electro beats.”Sam Dorman NBC

“Vokab Kompany is another act that refuses to be pigeonholed. Two MCs might lead you to believe that it’s hip hop, but that doesn’t begin to tell the story. The seven piece band from San Diego played for more than an hour, a set that was at times funky, jazzy, heavy, bouncy, even bluegrassy… And it all made sense. Through it all, the crowd was treated to microphonic gymnastics of the dueling MCs, Rob Hurt and Burkey. The group is legit; see them.”Lindol French, Sacramento Press

    The Video:

2016 hasn’t arrived yet, but it’s already looking to be a big year for Vokab Kompany. The San Diego electronic-rap group’s album The Good Kompany is slated to release on January 13th. The album’s second single, “View of My Life,” follows “Kaleidoscope,” which release earlier this year and has surpassed 35K plays. Debuted by EARMILK, “View of My Life” releases with an accompanying music video that finds Vokab Kompany emcees Rob Hurt and Burkey Baby embracing friendships as they’re cruising the SoCal streets, hosting a party on the balcony of their beachside home, and even heading out to sea.

Vokab Kompany’s song “World Wide” is featured in trailers for the Brothers Grimsby film, which stars Sacha Baron Cohen and Penelope Cruz and will release next year. Previous placements for the group include their work being featured in commercials for huge companies like KIA and Southern Comfort. The duo is fresh off a six-month tour fronting the Run DMC Remixed tribute for Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe. Along with their band, they’ve played countless festivals including Snowglobe, Electric Forrest, and Coachella. Their previous project, VKCE, a collaboration with duo Crush Effect, gained two national commercials and debuted at #47 on the iTunes hip-hop charts, behind only major-label releases from T.I. and Chief Keef among all hip-hop records released that week. With The Good Kompany coming up, fans have much to look forward to from the dynamic duo.

    Vokab Kompany Background:

Vokab Kompany are two MC/singers from San Diego, backed by their 4 piece band of awesome. Their live show combines multiple synths/keys with bass/drums and a violin to create a sound that doesn’t quite adhere to a specific genre, but seems to fit the bill with several.

Their new album, VKCE, a collaboration effort with up and coming production/ musician duo Crush Effect (featuring members of Funk/Jamband legend Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe), fill a void at the intersection of the hip-hop and EDM worlds. VKCE is hip-hop, it’s electronic, it’s indie – it’s a shout out to the past, and a taste of the future. The record already has two national commercials, for a major carmaker (debuting 2013) and Southern Comfort. The album debuted at #47 on the iTunes hip-hop charts, behind only major-label releases from T.I. and Chief Keef among all hip-hop records released that week.

The team has been blessed with a slew of great press. In addition to a feature on electronic music in the August print edition of SPIN, and “climbing” George Washington Bridge with Al Roker, the band has won best hip-hop group at the San Diego Music Awards for three years in a row, and even impressed Prince Charles when he stopped by Solana Beach’s Belly Up to catch a VK show.

    The Remix:

Singer-songwriter Verse Simmonds (credits: Justin Bieber, Usher) and the Thomas brothers of R. City, whose Adam Levine-assisted “Locked Away” single reached the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Pop Songs chart in Oct., have been putting on for their birthplace, the Virgin Islands. While R. City immigrated from St. Thomas to Atlanta, Simmonds has remained a nomad having spent time living in Florida, Los Angeles, and currently in Atlanta since leaving the Virgin Islands. The long-time friends have now teamed up for a Dancehall remix to Simmonds’ hit single “Situationships.” The Dancehall remix is produced by The Dictatorz and also features Orlando, FL singer and VVS Society artist Raheem.

“R.City and I are brothers from another mother!” Verse Simmonds tells LargeUp in their premiere of the remix. “We met when we were in middle school and have been best friends ever since.”  The song provides an honest perspective on many relationships today, as Simmonds explores alternatives that could allow both parties to be more open about their intentions. “It has always been a plan of mine to create a full body of work specifically geared towards my Caribbean roots and you can expect a lot more from me in that vein in 2016,” Simmonds says.

Prior to the “Situationships” remix, Verse Simmonds linked with K Camp for “Mona Lisa,” which premiered via Complex, who said the “final result is an infectious R&B turn-up track that has club anthem potential and should easily get fans ready for what Verse Simmonds has coming in the near future.” The single followed the Jeremih-assisted All I Want.” A go-to writer for Chris Brown, most notably contributing to his songs “New Flame” and “Drunk Texting,” Verse Simmonds is also a frequent Gucci Mane collaborator in addition to being credited as a writer on K.
