Leading this week’s Audible Treats Hip-Hop Podcast 181 is Chicago drill emcee Mikey Dollaz with his song “Forever Be That Guy,” an aggressive, hypnotic track featuring Mikey Dollaz and frequent collaborator King Louie spitting high-energy bars over a SALVA beat based on an Art of Noise sample. Mikey Dollaz’ Picture Me Rollin’ mixtape came out on February 19th and was debuted by FACT. Next up we have legendary Houston rapper Trae Tha Truth, teaming up with ATLien Young Thug, one of the hottest rappers in the game, for “Slugs.” On “Slugs,” premiered by Billboard, Young Thug is the exuberant Yin to Trae’s calm and collected Yang, providing a perfect blend for this single from Trae’s eighth LP, Tha Truth 2. Following “Slugs” is “Morals” the FADER-premiered new single off Smoke DZA and Harry Fraud‘s upcoming collaborative EP, He Has Risen, set to release March 5th. For “Morals,” Harry and Smoke recruited Snoop Dogg, an idol of theirs, for a menacing anti-snitching public service announcement, at once a snarling warning and a show of fierce loyalty to homies. Following Smoke DZA and Harry Fraud, we move from coast to coast as we visit Bobby Brackins and friend and frequent collaborator Ty Dolla $ign for their single “Faithful,” which premiered in Interview Magazine. Produced by Nic Nac and co-written by Brackins and Dolla $ign, the song reunites the dream team that penned Chris Brown‘s international smash “Loyal” for another club banger. “Faithful” appears on Bobby Brackins’ forthcoming EP, …To Live For. Wrapping up the podcast is Philthy Rich with “King Jack,” a heartfelt ode to fallen Bay Area rapper The Jacka. Though “King Jack” is sad, it is not morose, as Philthy Rich, Freeway and Paul Wall pay tribute and share their memories, bookended by interview clips of The Jacka himself, giving sage advice and cracking wise.
