New Audible Treats Hip-Hop Podcast 174 Features RJD2 x STS, Los Rakas, Zion I, Ikey, and Vokab Kompany

The Podcast:
Starting off Audible Treats Hip-Hop Podcast 174 is Philadelphia-based producer/rapper duo RJD2 x STS with their first single, “Hold On, Here It Go.” “Rarely do I cut a track and get the goosebumps, slam dunk type feeling RIGHT away, but it happened on this one,” RJ explains. The duo is releasing their self-titled album, STS x RJD2, on May 5th via RJ’s record label, RJ’s Electrical Connections. Next up is the West Coast’s hip-hop, electronic, and indie-blending Vokab Kompany, an MC/singer duo prepping for the release of their most anticipated project to date, The Good Kompany. The album’s first single, “Kaleidoscope,” premiered via EARMILK, who said, “different is good, and this one is beyond funky… get ready to feel sweet vibes.” Third on the podcast is Maryland via Lagos rapper Ikey with “Story, Story,” which features a hypnotic piano sample loop underneath the 64 bar onslaught from Ikey, whose vocals are embellished by a variation of effects including a speakerphone filter. “Story, Story” is the final cut from his Green Card EP, which released earlier this month. Following Ikey is Zion I and fellow Bay Area lyricist Locksmith with “Culture Freedom,” where the MC’s strive to keep hip-hop’s progressive spirit alive. “Just seeing the way that society is so twisted, we as artists struggle with tackling the real issues at hand.” Zumbi says. “Hip-hop is a tool to empower us, not to limit us and put us back into whatever our oppressor wants us to be.” Concluding the podcast is Oakland by way of Panama duo Los Rakas, who gave energy-filled performances at this year’s Coachella. Their thumping, dance floor-ready single“Dale” premiered via EARMILK, who said “‘Dale’ is no hands barred down and dirty dance music that will get even the most conservative out onto the dance floor.”
