As He Gears Up For the Release of Hood Rich 4, The Bay Area’s Gucci Mane Gives “Broke Boy” the All Star Treatment

The Song:
Layering grandiose production, playful lyrics and a commanding hook, the remix to Philthy Rich‘s “Broke Boy” demands attention. Premiered today by FakeShoreDrive, the remix finds the Oakland rapper celebrating his authenticity, joined by Atlanta-bred rapper Ca$h Out, Detroit’s Kash Doll, New York City’s Troy Ave, and Chicago’s 600Breezy. Philthy Rich says matter-of-factly, “We’re from different parts of the country but we share the same disdain for ‘Broke Boys.'” All four artists are assertive, yet relaxed, as they taunt their adversaries over metallic keys courtesy of KCDaBeatMonster. Since being premiered by WorldStarHipHop, the original version of “Broke Boy” has amassed over 160,000 plays on YouTube.
“Broke Boy (Remix)” is the second single from Philthy Rich’s upcoming Hood Rich 4 mixtape, which will be his third full-length release of 2016, following Real N*ggas Back in $tyle and SemCity Moneyman 4. Hood Rich 4 is slated to be released sometime in August and features guest appearances by G-Herbo, Shy Glizzy and Soulja Boy with production from the likes of Zaytoven and Shawty Fresh. Explaining what a “Broke Boy” is, Philthy Rich iterates “A ‘Broke Boy’ isn’t someone who is simply poor. I wouldn’t make light of someone in that situation – I’ve been shit broke myself – I couldn’t by a $5 white tee when I got out of jail. A ‘Broke Boy’ is someone who is perpetrating to be financially stable for their friends or a female when they’re really not. I get a lot of people using my photos or my likeness and scamming people out of their money. Like random people posting photos of my jewelry saying that they made it and will take money to make chains for whoever. That’s some broke boy shit. It’s cool if you don’t have a lot of money and I’m not against the hustle but don’t manipulate me and use me in a deceitful way to come up.”
Born and raised in East Oakland’s notorious Seminary neighborhood, Philthy Rich is a seasoned veteran in the Bay Area Hip-Hop scene, called “The Bay Area’s Gucci Mane” by HipHopDX, for his raw and honest lyricism, his great ear for new talent, untiring work ethic and wide network of collaborators. Last week, HotNewHipHop premiered the Zaytoven-produced first single from Hood Rich 4, “Numbers,” which features Skeme and Sauce Walka. Earlier, Noisey premiered a remix of Real N*ggas Back in $tyle highlight “Piss Codeine,” featuring what they called a “buffet of great rappers,” including Kevin Gates and Young Dolph. In the lead up to Real N*ggas Back in $tyle, the first in a series of three albums with the same title, Philthy Rich shared a series of singles starting with music videos for the IAMSU-assisted money-making anthem “Make A Living,” which gained more than one million Soundcloud streams, and trunk-thumping Young Scooter collab “Buss Down (Right Now).” Philthy Rich’s latest project, SemCity MoneyMan 4, is available for streaming on Soundcloud and for purchase on iTunes.
