With an unstoppable work ethic and a supernatural ability for beat-making and beat-riding, P-Lo is one of the most complete and most popular artists in his native Bay Area. On “Don’t Think,” his latest release from the upcoming album SHINE, he lays out his ambitions and gives a glimpse into his innermost thoughts rocking a conversational flow atop a subdued soundscape that kicks into high gear with thrumming bass in the hook. “Don’t Think also features a moving verse from Mozzy, who stacks assonant syllables as he mourns lost friends and searches for a sign from the heavens.

The follow-up to his breakthrough album PRIME, SHINE shows a different side of P-Lo, combining bright sonics with heavy bass and offering personal insight into the man behind the grill. In June, P-Lo shared the album’s first single “Just Gang,” which earned placement on Spotify’s Cali Fire playlist. Earlier this summer, the Richmond, CA native dropped “Going Big,” which features prominently in the new NFL video game Madden 20, and will appear on the game’s soundtrack. Featuring appearances from Dom Kennedy, Mozzy, Mike Sherm, Jay Anthony, Bosko, and more, SHINE releases on August 16th via EMPIRE.

The co-founder/ringleader and chief producer for Bay Area collective HBK Gang, P-Lo broke out individually in a big way in 2018, becoming an ambassador for his scene. Buoyed by the hit single “same squad,” which racked up more than 12 million Spotify streams, his album PRIME was a high-definition collection of East Bay bangers, showcasing his vibrant personality and introducing his skill with plaintive melody. Last Fall, P-Lo was one of the highest-billed local artists at Rolling Loud Bay Area, bringing out friend and collaborator G-Eazy to perform his hit “Feel Good,” a highlight from the first volume of the Insecure soundtrack. When P-Lo’s beloved Golden State Warriors reached the NBA Finals, P-Lo partnered with Nike for the company’s “Want It All” campaign.
