Melodically examining the violence in his city’s streets, Chicago rapper OTF Ikey learned all the best moves from his mentor Lil Durk. Bottling up his pain and lashing out at those who pretend to be something they’re not, Ikey shares “Counterfeit,” his new single. Emoting atop synth strings, ethereal choirs, and haunting piano, Ikey expounds upon his everyday struggle with lilting melody as he desperately tries to figure out who to trust: “These n****s say they 100, they be counterfeit/If I can’t count on you, I can’t count on sh*t.” “Counterfeit” is the second Ikey single in two months to examine the realities of his home neighborhood, following the sinister “Dead Bodies,” which dwells on the consequences of street violence.
OTF Ikey was one of the standout rappers on Only The Family Involved Vol. 2, the latest compilation mixtape from OTF. He flexed his muscles on “Trappin’ Hard,” a dramatic and outlandish banger, and showed his emotional side with fellow OTF signee Park Hill on the trap ballad “Let It Rain.” Also boasting signees such as Booka600, Doodie Lo and King Von, whose breakout single “Crazy Story“ earned over 32 million views on YouTube, Only The Family and Lil Durk are poised to dominate Summer 2019.
