The Alabama Native Stunts In His Adopted Hometown of Oakland in This Video for this Pre-Summer Jam

2.28.2019

Critical Praise:

“[OMB Peezy] is tough but melodic, with a youthfully urgent voice and production that’s indebted to Louisiana and California.” – New York Times

“Peezy’s impassioned flow makes the circumstances he’s discussing feel visceral and immediate as a listener; there’s nothing impressionistic about his bars” – Pigeons and Planes

“This kid from Alabama is the future of rap.” – The FADER

The Video:

A 21-year-old rapper with the grizzled wisdom of a veteran, OMB Peezy imbues a deep sense of struggle and morality into his rapidfire rhymes. Returning with his second full-length project, Peezy announces Preacher to the Streets, his debut studio album. Endlessly thoughtful about the struggle inherent in street life, Preacher To The Streets finds Peezy relaying detailed hood tales, reflecting on his past and offering life lessons borne out of his upbringing in Mobile, Alabama. Rhyming over production from Drum Dummy, Cassius Jay, Helluva, and many others, Preacher to the Streets leans into Peezy’s Southern roots, reverberating with twangy guitar and warm organ. Featuring appearances from T.I., Lil Durk, Boosie, G-Eazy, Sada Baby, and William King, Preacher To The Streets arrives spring 2019 via 300 Ent./Sick Wid It Records.

Reveling in his newfound riches, Peezy hosts a porch party in No Keys,” his latest video. A breezy and headphone ready rider’s anthem, “No Keys” will make you wish it was BBQ season as Peezy and guestG-Eazy discuss their ways with women and their taste in luxury cars (button-start only, no keys in the ignition). Tying up his dreads and ghost riding in his yellow sports car, Peezy hosts the hottest party in his Oakland neighborhood, bringing out all the ingredients for an A-1 East Bay bash–models, booze, and E-40. Premiered by Complex, who called Peezy “one of the Bay’s most promising rappers,” “No Keys” is the perfect way to let a little West Coast sunshine into the dreary late winter months.

Nearly two years after his debut single “Lay Down” put Peezy on the map, the motormouthed emcee shared Loyalty Over Love, his debut full-length, in summer 2018. Stuffed with glistening Dirty South instrumentals, Loyalty Over Love is the culmination of Peezy’s rise, with sharp lyrics about his life as a rising star and his struggles with the legal system. Featuring appearances from Mozzy, Paper Lovee, and OMB Iceberg, Loyalty Over Love was released by Sick Wid It Records/300 Ent. Peezy treated fans to another revealing glimpse when he shared Behind The Title: Loyalty Over Love, a FADER-premiered mini-doc that explains the main themes behind the album. Stay tuned for Preacher To The Streets, coming this spring.

The Background:

Born in Alabama, the 10-year-old Peezy moved to the west coast when he was 12, developing a reputation as a rap prodigy, building a following on YouTube, and gaining the respect of the new wave of Bay Area artists such as Nef The Pharaoh and legends such as E-40. In 2017, OMB Peezy parlayed his grassroots local fanbase into a national following, earning millions of combined streams on his singles like the virally popular hitsWhen I Was Down,” Porch,” and Lay Down,” which Pigeons & Planes listed at #14 in their halftime list of Best Songs of 2017 and which Passion of the Weiss listed as their #19 for the year. In October, Peezy shared his debut project Humble Beginnings, a slap-heavy six-pack produced in full by Grammy-nominated producer Cardo Got Wingz (Kendrick Lamar, Jeezy, Meek Mill) and released by Sick Wid It/300 Ent. Peezy also toured throughout 2017, supporting Detroit artist Tee Grizzley in the fall and accompanying SOB x RBE on a national tour in the spring. In January, Peezy shared Young & Reckless, a joint mixtape with Peezy’s 300 Ent. labelmate Sherwood Marty, which proved that Peezy’s excellent run of 2017 singles was no fluke, and in August 2018, Peezy shared Loyalty Over Love, his debut solo full-length. Stay tuned for Peezy’s upcoming Preacher To The Streets project, coming Spring 2019.
