Video: My Favorite Color  – “Mayday

The Artist Recently Hailed as a “Best New Artist” by Pigeons & Planes Continues His Streak of Eye-Popping Visuals with a Channel-Surfing Interpretation of His Jazz-Inflected Banger

Critical Praise:

Best New Artist for September 2021: It’s clear My Favorite Color is okay not taking himself too seriously and letting the music speak for itself.” – Pigeons & Planes

“The Pittsburgh MC once again flashes signs of brilliance on his new song ‘Old News.’ His zany personality and frenetic flow are the main drivers of his fun-filled anthem.”
Billboard

“He truly brings you on a sonic journey that contains so many different styles, sounds, and narratives, you have no choice but to pay attention.”
Lyrical Lemonade

“His music is powerful. Each bar drips with the confusion and existential dread of a man who feels out of place in his world.” – Noisey

The Video:

My Favorite Color‘s keen sense of visuals matches the chaotic energy he exudes in his rhymes–he’s hyperactive, but always is in control. Coming through with another high-concept visual, My Favorite Color shares “Mayday.” A jazzy and off-kilter banger that announces the artist as a major and uncompromising talent, “Mayday” is a lyrical showcase that veers to every corner of the rapper’s mind, mixing party-positive flexes with tongue-twisting geopolitical analysis. Directed by Dee Sauce, the new video matches the energy of the sirenic instrumental. As he did in his recent video for Old News,” MFC plays multiple roles, ranging from a kidnap victim, to a possibly untrained pilot, to a truth-telling stand-up comedian. The new clip is colorful and action-packed, another example of why My Favorite Color’s artistic gifts and engaging sense of humor inspired Pigeons & Planes to name him a Best New Artist in September 2021.

The latest glimpse of his upcoming project, due early next year, “Mayday” finds My Favorite Color in a rarified spot–he’s confident enough in his abilities to experiment with his craft and to have fun while doing it. “Mayday” immediately follows Old News,” a bouncy, lyrical banger that takes the time to emphasize why the L.A.-via-Pittsburgh artist is different from your favorite rapper, complete with a hilarious music video where MFC plays multiple parts a la Eddie Murphy. “Old News” earned critical praise from Billboard who called the song a “flash of brilliance,” and Lyrical Lemonade who wrote, “after seeing the music video, I can’t think of a better record and visual one-two punch than this from what I’ve seen recently.”

Signed to Rostrum Records, the label that broke Pittsburgh legends like Mac Miller and Wiz Khalifa, My Favorite Color looks to follow in their footsteps as the next artist from the Steel City to make it big. “Old News” heralds a return for the L.A.-via-Pittsburgh artist, who is working on his follow-up to Velma, his ambitious debut album. A tour through the Rostrum Records signee’s inventive mind and finely-tuned aesthetic, Velma is a revealing and relatable album–listening feels like catching up with an old friend about his life. On songs like the lead single Funeral,” My Favorite Color contemplates complex questions about faith, mortality, music, and love. Acclaimed by DJ BoothKAZI, and more,Velma is available everywhere via Rostrum Records.

Stay tuned for much more music and eye-popping videos from My Favorite Color in the coming weeks and months as he prepares for his next album.
