Video: My Favorite Color – “Old News“

The Rising Lyricist Plays Multiple Characters in the Video for His Soulful and Incisive New Single

Critical Praise:

“The Pittsburgh MC once again flashes signs of brilliance on his new song ‘Old News.’ His zany personality and frenetic flow are the main drivers of his fun-filled anthem.”
– Billboard

“He truly brings you on a sonic journey that contains so many different styles, sounds, and narratives, you have no choice but to pay attention.”
– Lyrical Lemonade

“His music is powerful. Each bar drips with the confusion and existential dread of a man who feels out of place in his world.” – Noisey

The Video:

Toeing the line between tradition and experimentation, rising artist My Favorite Color marches to the beat of his own drum. Flexing his pen game and his offbeat delivery, My Favorite Color makes a statement with “Old News,” his first new single and music video of 2021. Fitting his rapidfire rhymes between offbeat blasts of flute, the L.A.-via-Pittsburgh artist takes time to emphasize the ways he’s different from your favorite rapper, while weaving together head-turning bits of wordplay: “Sneezing from the pollen, all the flowers growing, give ‘em to me while I’m living,” he spits.

The new music video for “Old News” showcases the rapper’s engaging personality and boundless creativity. Channeling comedians like Eddie Murphy, MFC plays multiple characters, each reflecting an aspect of his personality. The main character in the video is an impish paperboy, who tromps around his block on his bicycle and gets under the nerves of his neighbors. The 24-year-old artist also shows his range, playing a crotchety, white-bearded OG, and a cheerful, nightgown-wearing neighbor lady. Directed by Taylor Bonin, the video’s playful aesthetic jibes with the song’s spritely sonics.

Signed to Rostrum Records, the label that broke Pittsburgh legends like Mac Miller and Wiz Khalifa, My Favorite Color looks to follow in their footsteps as the next artist from the Steel City to make it big. “Old News” heralds a return for the L.A.-via-Pittsburgh artist, who is working on his follow-up to Velma, his ambitious debut album. A tour through the Rostrum Records signee’s inventive mind and finely-tuned aesthetic, Velma is a revealing and relatable album–listening feels like catching up with an old friend about his life. On songs like the lead single “Funeral,” My Favorite Color contemplates complex questions about faith, mortality, music, and love. Acclaimed by DJ Booth, KAZI, and more,Velma is available everywhere via Rostrum Records.

Stay tuned for much more music and eye-popping videos from My Favorite Color in the coming weeks and months.
