CHILDREN OF THE SLUMS Is Available Everywhere Via CMG/Interscope
Mozzy’s Deeply Personal CHILDREN OF THE SLUMS is Dedicated to Those Left Behind By The Streets, Featuring Guest Appearances from Eric Bellinger, and Mozzy’s Oak Park Associates Celly Ru and E Mozzy
Critical Praise:
“He never needs to raise his voice or act out just to grab your attention; his delivery is assured and consistent but never overconfident. But despite how second nature rapping is for Mozzy, he never lets that confidence tilt into arrogance.” – Pitchfork
“Mozzy is the definition of a rapper in the zone, with a signal-to-noise ratio that rivals anyone else working in hip-hop today.” – Complex
“Chalk it up as a victory for Sacramento’s lyrical champion.” – HipHopDX
Rolling Stone’s 100 Greatest West Coast Rap Songs of All Time (#68, “Bladadah”)
The Video:
Mozzy emerged from rough circumstances to become a West Coast rap hero, but his heart stills acutely feels the pain of those suffering in his neighborhood. Those feelings of pain are more prevalent than ever before on CHILDREN OF THE SLUMS, Mozzy’s new album, out now via CMG/Interscope. Today, he’s back with a special lyric video for one of the album’s most emotional cuts, “LOST IT ALL.” The single is home to a heart-wrenching hook from Fridayy, whose heavenly melodies provide Mozzy the strength to pour out traumas held within. The new visual, which shows heartfelt scenes of families from different neighborhoods within the LA-area, providing a backdrop for Mozzy to tackle the themes that he not only dives into on this track, but throughout the entire album.

Released in April, CHILDREN OF THE SLUMS is one of Mozzy’s most personal projects to date. Over 17 deeply personal tracks, Mozzy chronicles the hardships of those born into poverty–many of whom appear in photos on the album’s cover–and details their daily trials and tribulations. As Mozzy reflects on the lives on those around him, the 36-year-old rapper considers how his upbringing has affected his mindset, and how it haunts him even as he pursues his successful rap career. The album is his first since ending a year-long prison sentence, and though he missed the game while he was gone, CHILDREN OF THE SLUMS reveals that he most regrets being less able to help his community.
The album is home to singles like “FREE JUJU,” salutes a young man who lost his way, even after Mozzy took him under his wing, “JADED,” a heartfelt collaboration with Eric Bellinger, the lyrical “MISS BIG BRUH,” and “IF I DIE RIGHT NOW,” a moving tribute to Mozzy’s late grandmother. Praised by The New York Times and NPR, among others, the album also hosts new highlights like “RED NOSE BULLY.” Featuring additional appearances from Mozzy’s longtime Oak Park associates Celly Ru and E Mozzy, CHILDREN OF THE SLUMS is available everywhere via CMG/Interscope.
