Debuted by XXL, the Torchbearer for Independent Hip-Hop Gears Up for Fire in the Church Album Release on May 6th with Triumphant Video

04.25.2016

The Video:

As an independent artist who built one of the most dedicated hip-hop fanbases from the ground up, Montana of 300‘s hustle can’t be knocked. Gearing up for the release of his Fire in the Church album on May 6th, the Chicago heavy-hitter is sharing the XXL-debuted visual for “Here Now,” an introspective cut that finds Montana of 300 conversing with his conscience. He tells the story of staying on his grind, keeping important people close, and never losing sight of the top. “Promised my girl I’m gonna get us up out of this situation / cut back on sinning and changed the way I was living / so my sons ain’t have to come see they daddy in prison visitation.”

In his annotation of the “Here Now” lyrics on Genius, Montana of 300 explained, “You get to listen in to what’s going on in my own mind… it’s kinda like me giving myself advice.” The reflective artist has been cementing his place in the game with an impressive stream of original video singles and remix videos which have accumulated 160M+ YouTube views. “He is nothing if not versatile,” HotNewHipHop notes, while VIBE adds that “Montana rips relentless bars that separate him from his peers.” Montana of 300 previously released “WTS Now,” a track reflecting on the long journey he’s been on, from handing his CD’s out around Chicago to now having built a massive following as an independent hip-hop artist.

Since concluding an East Coast tour in January, Montana Of 300 has been headlining a series of Midwest shows. A 2016 XXL Freshmen nominee, the prolific artist recently spoke with Fuse‘s FM TV detailing his experience meeting with Kanye West and Rick Rubin, telling fans to “expect the unexpected.” Montana of 300’s Fire in the Church album, a follow-up to his 2014 break-through project Cursed With a Blessing, is slated to release on May 6th.

Montana of 300 Background:

Montana of 300 is an independent rapper from the South side of Chicago. Wearing a bandana underneath his rope like/twisted dreads and covered in tattoos, Montana’s YouTube presence has blown up, with his remixes of Dej Loaf’s “Try Me” racking in almost 8 million views and “Chiraq” clocking 7 million views, to name a few. Often referred to as “Rap God,” Montana of 300 got his start back in 2008 when he named himself after the movie 300, adopting the movie’s underlying motif “No surrender, no retreat” as his own anthem. Known for his back-to-back flurries of mind-blowing metaphors, unforgettable quotes, inspirational stories of struggle and his aggression, Montana’s music is spreading fast, keeping the people talking and running to tell the next. Being versatile and dropping hits like “Holy Ghost,” “Ice Cream Truck,” and “All I Ever Wanted,” he shows us that he’s way more than just another Chicago rapper. He never fails to crush all the competition and his fans go nuts every time. Montana of 300 has been turning down record deals, saying he’s comfortable with how he’s doing while planning on staying independent. His upcoming album, Fire In The Church, releases May 6th.
