Critical Praise for Mista Cain

“A Godfather-type figure in Baton Rouge”Passion Of The Weiss

The Video:

A Baton Rouge local hero who specializes in harrowing, emotional street tales, Mista Cain is one of the Bayou’s most vital voices. Posting up in Houston with some video vixens, Mista Cain lets us see his more sensitive side on the N.O. Joe-produced Making Love,” premiered today by HipHopDX. Rocking a halting, authoritative flow and enlisting the honeyed vocals of Chrizz Michaels for the hook, “Makin’ Love” is an exceptional for-the-ladies jam, with a video to match. Filmed at The House of Derion, a Texas mansion owned by Mathew Knowles, the father of Beyoncé and Solange, “Making Love” is the latest clip from Tha Verdict, Mista Cain’s upcoming debut studio release. Featuring appearances from Boosie Badazz, Young Dolph, Starlito, Trouble, and Chrizz Michaels, with production from Mouse On The Track, Jon Boii, JTrax, and others, Tha Verdict focuses on Mista Cain’s recent murder trial, his subsequent acquittal, and the ordeal’s affect on his psyche and his community.

Explains Mista Cain, “This song was inspired by a girlfriend I was with before my incarceration. I thought about how our relationship would be after all those years locked away, but upon release we ended everything. So after jail, she wasn’t mine anymore.”

Born Samuel Nichols, Mista Cain is a Godfather figure in Baton Rouge rap and a well-respected artist across the South. He is the founder of Cain Muzik Mafia, a Baton Rouge-based music collective featuring artists such as Scotty Cain. Last year, Cain released The Cain Projecta re-introductory mixtape released in preparation for The Verdict. “Making Love” is the fourth release so far from The Verdict, following Run Dem Banz,” Mista Cain’s collaboration with Young Dolph, the FADER-premiered, Boosie-featuring “Remember When,” and the slice-of-life video for “Made It Out,” premiered by Mass Appeal. Last week also marked the release of The Godfather Documentary, a film about Mista Cain that gives a glimpse into his post-prison life. Featuring a collection of concert clips, radio interviews, behind-the-scenes of music video shoots, and candid recordings of Cain and his crew, all set to the sound of Mista Cain’s signature music, the documentary is an illuminating look inside the story of a beloved street rapper.  Releasing March 17thTha Verdict is currently available for pre-order via iTunes.

Mista Cain Background

Samuel Nichols–aka “MISTA CAIN”–is a Street rapper from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. His rap style gives a detailed description of his first hand experiences. Nichols rapped for fun in school and after he dropped out and began hustling in the streets, music became more than a hobby. About the same time, he was spitting & living his hardcore lyrics, he gained the unwanted attention of public officials and a special gang task force. Mista Cain kept rapping to express his perspectives and became determined to dominate the Music Industry. He formed Cain Muzik Mafia and with his team they put out the three-part Cain Muzik mixtape series, and featured on Kevin Gates‘ “Change on Me” in 2013. In that same year, Mista Cain detained with no bond for second-degree murder. After a lengthy trial, was acquitted. In 2015, he left prison and began recording new music, collaborating with Boosie BadAzz on “Big Blue Hundreds” in February of that same year. In 2016, Mista Cain released Cain, a mixtape that reflected on his prison term and trial. Mista Cain and Cain Muzik Mafia have YouTube views in the millions and a loyal fan base that increases daily. With regular collaborations with other artists such as Plies, Starlito, Jadakiss, Young Dolph and Migos, and his upcoming project Tha Verdict, Mista Cain will continue to release gritty, real street music for an ever expanding audience.
