Audio: Mario Judah – “I Cannot Love You” (Prod. by Mario Judah)
The Rapper/Singer/Producer Unleashes His Inner Rock Star As He Works Through Heartbreak
The Song + Video:
Known for his booming vocals and full-throttle intensity, Mario Judah is a modern day rock star. Lashing out at the woman who broke his heart, Mario shares “I Cannot Love You,” a bass-boosted anti-love song. Channeling volumes of rage and betrayal into a brisk and dramatic 84 seconds, Mario lets loose on his ex, lamenting that he caught feelings and vowing to never be deceived again: “Never will I ever let you take my heart/I don’t think we ever can repair these scars,” belts Mario with a powerful vibrato. Like the rest of his music, “I Cannot Love You” is an adrenaline-boosting Mario Judah production, complete with distorted 808s high in the mix and dissonant strings moaning in the background.
Filmed with a grainy, blood red tint, the “I Cannot Love You” video finds Mario venturing out into the woods with a shovel and a dead body, overcome with anger, grief, and disbelief over his impulsive actions. Mario proves once again to be an expressive and passionate performer, throwing every fiber of his being into depicting his anguish. The clip is a pointed message to those who would cheat on their significant others: play with people’s emotions at your own peril. The video concludes a week-long piece of performance art that Mario enacted on social media about the real life emotional damage that cheating can cause. The 21-year-old artist expanded up on the message behind “I Cannot Love U” and its associated content in a recent Instagram post.
Starting his career as a producer, Mario Judah didn’t consider becoming a vocalist until earlier this year. Influenced by the gritty subject matter of rap music and the vocal styles of metal and hard rock, Mario arrived on a singular sound with his first single “Crush,” which brought a gothic and melodramatic majesty to melodic rap. He trended worldwide in October 2020 when he released his song “Die Very Rough,” a bombastic and insidiously catchy story of revenge, which went viral on Twitter, YouTube, and TikTok.
“Die Very Rough” racked up over 30 million streams and spent three weeks atop Spotify’s Viral 50 chart. The rapper recently recorded a Genius Verified for “Die Very Rough,” which trended on YouTube and surpassed one million views in less than a week. The song inspired an entire universe of memes (one of Mario’s favorites compared his rap style to that of a Disney villain) and earned the Florida native the chance to perform his first-ever live set at Rolling Loud’s “Loud Stream,” which aired on Twitch to an audience of 1.5+ million. Most recently, Mario shared Whole Lotta Red, a 4-track project in the style of Playboi Carti (over 10 million streams across platforms).
Armed with influential co-signs from the likes of Lil Uzi Vert, Denzel Curry, Lil Yachty, Logic, and Zane Lowe, Mario Judah is bringing his dark and dramatic aesthetic to the mainstream. You have been warned…there’s no running from Mario Judah’s impending takeover.
