Critical Praise for Marc E. Bassy:

“His bouncy flow channels the manic energy of Chance The Rapper; the animated style and tempered synths of “Cigarettes” could comfortably fit as a b-side to Acid Rap – SPIN

“We were able to give Marc his first ever solo performance at our SXSW Showcase, and it exceeded all expectations.” – Good Music All Day

“A very unique artist, you’ll want to tune in for 2014.” – Hypnotic Hippo

The EP:

“There are no more boxes, and that’s kind of just been my manifesto,” says future RnB artist Marc E. Bassy. The San Francisco-based RnB singer/songwriter and rapper, who’s written songs for the likes of Chris Brown and Sean Kingston has finally released his debut EP, “Only The Poets,” premiering today at DJ Booth. Cut from a cloth similar to the likes of Frank Ocean, Drake, and Musiq Soulchild, the 2AM Club graduate creates a rich, ambient, trap-laden aesthetic, featuring a project full of heartfelt rhymes and singing. Ditching predictable bass lines for a bevy of low-brass instruments, the EP fosters a ethereal multi-layered sonic landscape that sounds warm and in slow-motion at the same time.

Following the singles “Cigarettes,” premiered by Spin, “Over The Water” featured on Complex, and “Relapse” featuring Iamsu!Only The Poets will tread new territory for Marc E. Bassy, as the superstar on the rise begins the next phase in his career, both as a performer and songwriter. On Looking back on the inspiration for “Cigarettes,” Bassy states, “‘Cigarettes’ is a song about the choice you have to make as an artist when dealing with romance. It’s very personal to me I talk about previous lost love and how it is parallel to current love. ‘Cigarettes’ is also about the way that when you truly love something like music there’s always medicine to fill the void that comes with being a person.” Juxtaposing his love for music, the single “Over The Water” came from a much different place. “Everyone is running around doing selfish shit to get popular and it can be intoxicating, where you begin to believe that this superficiality is what matters. ‘Over The Water’ is about that and how it plays out in relationships; trying to get over all the obstacles that the LA scene place in the way of true shit,” states Bassy.

This lyrical transparency and honesty is able to showcase Marc’s versatility as a singer and tackles topics not often addressed by the mainstream. “We’re trying to do more over here than put out random songs and pretend like we know about fashion,” he explains. Only The Poets features production by Count BassyThe NICNACBEATS and Billion Coast blending Hip-Hop, RnB and soul stylings into something completely new.
