The Song:

Have you ever sheepishly gone back to an ex-lover because the nookie was too good to resist? Ah yes, we’ve all been guilty of the relapse. And so has future RnB singer Marc E. Bassy and Iamsu! from HBK Gang, who teamed up for this loosie that’s titled just that: “Relapse.” Detailing his addiction to good lovin’ long after the relationship has faltered, Marc acknowledges, “this song came from the realest of experiences. I ended up sticking with the habit, couldn’t shake her.”

With lyrics like, “Im’a try to hit it one more time / I’m addicted to the way we grind,” Marc compares the pull one feels to a former lover, despite knowing better. This, matched with Mik Beat’s ambient, bass-filled production and Iamsu!’s playful verse, creates a sultry, multi-layered groove of a single on a hazy, slow-motion ride like a drug. “Love is a chemical reaction right? It takes us on the same roller coaster as any other chemical we feed our brain. It changes our perspective; all the sudden we hear music differently, we talk differently, have different views about our friends. It’s all there,” explains Bassy.

Only The Poets features production by Count Bassy, The NICNACBEATS and Billion Coast blending Hip-Hop, RnB and soul stylings into something completely new. The EP showcases Marc’s versatility as a singer and tackles topics not often addressed by the mainstream. “We’re trying to do more over here than put out random songs and pretend like we know about fashion,” he explains. The project is set to be released on July 29th.

Marc E. Bassy Background:

San Francisco-born Future RnB singer songwriter Marc E. Bassy is an artist who refuses to be pigeonholed. Inspired by the Bay Area Rap he grew up with as well as traditional Soul/RnB music, Marc has always found himself balancing between the two. Not only has Marc written songs for 2 Chainz, Sean Kingston, Chris Brown and Wiz Khalifa but he has also found success with his former Rap/Rock group 2AM Club, whose 2010 debut album What Did You Think Was Going To Happen? reached #3 on the Billboard Heatseekers charts. His debut solo EP Only The Poets, will be released later this summer marking the beginning of a superstar on the rise in the next phase in his career.
