“Somewhere between “Ski” and collabs with Veeze and Tee Grizzley, Dyl’s raps went from good to locked in, suddenly welded to the pocket of beats as opposed to playing off of them.” The FADER

“There’s just something about the slurry, slightly behind-the-beat delivery of newcomers like Dyl and Veeze that makes them very appealing and easy to listen to.”UPROXX

About

Luhh Dyl wants to keep you guessing. Poised to be the next big thing out of his city, the 20-year-old Detroit native has cultivated a devoted online fanbase, constantly re-defining himself, and his sound. The burgeoning rapper has coined his own unique subset of hip hop called “Cart Music ” built from a social media concept turned viral movement. From Michael Jackson to artists across genres, Luhh Dyl’s influences are heard in his eclectic sound, consisting of his raw lyricism and a punchy cadence layered on top of rhythmic, melodic beats. In his own words, he wants to make music that is “fun and unexpected,” saying “people have to listen carefully, because they won’t know what I’m going to say next.”

To his family, he’s Dylan – to his friends, Dyl for short, so when it came time to choose a rap moniker, the rapper says Luhh Dyl was a no-brainer. Dyl’s introduction to music came at an early age, freestyling with his brothers & friends. At 17 years old, he went to the studio for the first time, in search of a coping mechanism after his cousin’s passing. From there, making music became a passion almost immediately, and the studio continued to be an outlet for Dyl to express himself in ways that he never had before. Raised by a single mother and growing up in Detroit (amongst other places) he navigated an ever-changing environment, and had to mature quickly, but Dyl says his upbringing put him at an advantage. His experiences in his life have not only pushed him forward but would later serve as the inspiration behind his lyricism.

The cornerstones of Dyl’s life have always been his faith in God and his family, so it is fitting that his entry to music came alongside his older brother Dayvion, who was his first true musical collaborator. As his brother later joined the armed forces as a US Marine, Dyl now shares that he “carries this dream for the both of them”. As he transitioned into adulthood, Dyl moved out on his own at 18 years old. When he started to get his footing, Dyl decided he wanted to officially turn his passion for music into his career. He fondly remembers a talk with his mom around his 19th birthday to tell her that he wanted to pursue music full time; she gave him her full support, agreed to do everything possible to make his dream a reality and serve as his manager.

As Dyl grew into his artistry, he instinctively turned to social media as a way to get listeners’ attention. He began teasing songs on Tik Tok through videos of him riding around stores in shopping carts and rapping his unreleased music. The videos became increasingly popular and helped not only to build anticipation for forthcoming music but define his unique rap subgenre “Cart Music.” Once Dyl saw the true power of social media for the first time, he realized it could be something much bigger, and took it to another level. His willingness to be fearlessly creative and his vulnerability to share his behind the scenes glimpses helped him to stand out, rack up tens of thousands of followers, and build a devoted fan base through Tik Tok.

In 2024 Luhh Dyl released his single “LaLaLa,” which quickly gained traction on the internet. He recorded the song on a whim one night in his bedroom, and its sonic elements were out of his comfort zone. He had never showcased a more fun and melodic side of his music, at first only tapping into a more gritty and raw side, similar to some of the artists he grew up listening to. Once he saw the online response, however, he realized that he had discovered another layer of his artistry and found his niche. Dyl instantly built on the momentum, immediately following up with his next single “Go Missin (Carlee Russell)”, which also garnered a positive online response, and further solidified his fanbase. Now, with each release, he experiments with different influences and sounds, paying careful attention to what his fans respond to.

With his forthcoming tape, Cart Music, Luhh Dyl is ready for everyone to hear what he has to say. The inspiration behind the project draws from his “Cart Music” concept: the perfect soundtrack to listen to on a drive, or push a cart to. As he gears up for this new era, Dyl wants fans, new and old, to know what he stands for. Along with wanting to become one of the biggest artists out of his city, he wants to keep his faith and family as his main source of inspiration, continue to push himself out of his comfort zone, and make sure everyone around him is winning, too.
