NY’s Rap Prodigy Collabs With One of His Idols For A Lavish, Yet Laid-Back New Stoner’s Anthem

Critical Praise:

“Certain jarring yet witty bars like Sko’s plans for “saving up to buy the devil’s soul” have listeners doing a double-take while skating over Statik’s knocking production. Keep an eye on him heading down the stretch of ‘24.” – Billboard

“Sko is definitely one of the most exciting new acts in the ‘new’ New York scene, and we can’t wait to see his evolution in the coming years.” – Okayplayer

“Washington Heights native Lord Sko continues to carve a name for himself with his revisionist take on classic New York hip-hop sounds.” – Earmilk

The Video:

He is just 20 years old, but NY’s Lord Sko is an old soul with the rhyme talent to match. Reviving the sound of the stoner classics that raised him, he shares “Understand” ft. Curren$y, his new single and music video. Along with the new single, Sko officially announces PIFF, his upcoming album out 3/28 featuring a cross-generational selection of hip-hop heavy hitters.

“Understand” finds Sko living the life he used to dream of, calling the track “a feel-good stoner anthem that brings the energy of California summer to the bitter New York cold.” Spitting over groovy keys and vibrant sax melodies, Sko raps: Been feeling great y’all can’t deny the motion / I can travel when I want but lately I been posted / Y’all gotta learn to listen when your time is spoken / Rockin’ Polo puttin’ money on Italian horses.” A longtime idol and inspiration to Lord Sko, Curren$y taps in with a flex-filled verse of his own, looking down on the people who can’t understand this type of success: “Scan the parking lot I got the oldest or the newest car out / All eyes on the screen for the title bout / I might get my Porsche painted green before I bring it round / This for real this ain’t no vinyl wrap.” The “Understand” video, directed by Jason Goldwatch (Jay-Z, Kid Cudi, Blink-182), uses trippy visual effects to superimpose Sko and Curren$y on screens in opulent mansions, superyachts, private ‘Lord Sko’ jets, and more, reflecting the regal lives the rappers live.

“Understand” follows up “Stubborn,” the hazy Arlo Walker-produced stoner anthem, and “Lesson Learned,” the Statik Selektah-produced single that earned praise from BillboardiHeartRadio and more. The singles presage Sko’s next album, PIFF, arriving 3/28.. The anticipated follow-up to his acclaimed 2023 album United Palace is an expansion of the young rapper’s sound, with a sonic palette crafted by luminaries like Harry FraudStatik SelektahA-Lau, and Arlo Walker, the 18-year-old production prodigy who has been Sko’s right-hand man since his 2022 debut, MUSEUM. The 14-track PIFF signals Sko’s growing respect in the rap game, with greats from all eras stopping by to pay their respects.

With limitless potential and a work ethic to match, Lord Sko is looking to take his NYC sound global. Stay tuned for much more from the young artist as PIFF approaches this Spring.

The Background:

Lord Sko, aka Josh Fersko, is a native of Manhattan’s Washington Heights. Already a veteran at just 20 years old, having dropped 2 full-length projects, the prodigious lyrical talent continues to sharpen his sword on the upcoming PIFF, a sure-shot stoner classic. The upcoming album finds the young rapper expanding his classic NYC sound, with help from producers like Statik Selektah, Harry Fraud, A Lau, and his right-hand man Arlo Walker.

Young Sko fell in love with rap music when he was still in middle school. Back then, hip-hop was in the fondly- remembered blog era. Sko (who refers to himself as “the rap Jeff Hardy”) felt himself drawn to the stoner side of blog rap, including Wiz Khalifa, Odd Future, Action Bronson, and Curren$y, who would later become a collaborator. After practicing his craft for two years, Sko decided at age 17 to share his skill with the world, teaming up with then-16-year-old Arlo Walker to create the 2022 album Museum. In 2023, Sko followed up that auspicious debut with the even-more- polished United Palace, named after the historic concert hall located in his uptown neighborhood.

With PIFF on deck this Spring, a collaboration with Statik Selektah in the bag, and a forthcoming National tour this year, the future looks bright for Lord Sko. Stay tuned for more.
