20-year-old Mississippi rising star Lil Lonnie trades catchy auto-tuned bars with K Camp on the remix of the hook-driven single-life anthem “Special,” a highlight from Lonnie’s recently released mixtape TKWGO 2. In the video for “Special (Remix),” premiered today by WorldStarHipHop, Lil Lonnie tours Los Angeles in his Porsche, making stops at the pool and the block before settling in a cul-de-sac with the supremely laid back K Camp. Released earlier this month, TKWGO 2 is the sequel to last year’s underground hit They Know What’s Goin’ On, which was a top-downloaded independent mixtape on LiveMixtapes in 2015, and features appearances from Bryson Tiller, K Camp, and Jxmmi of Rae Sremmurd and production from Big Fruit, Will-a-Fool and others.

Born and raised in the crime-ridden Virden Additon region of Jackson, Mississippi, Lil Lonnie dove headfirst into music when he entered high school, starting his hip-hop career as a producer. After gaining some statewide attention as a producer in his high school years, Lil Lonnie released his breakthrough single, “I’m The Type,” which opened the doors to local radio and club shows. Lonnie is currently a student at Jackson State University in Mississippi, where he studies Mass Communications.

Highlights from TKWGO 2 include “Colors,” a melodic anthem that has racked up over 1.5 million views on YouTube and the Billboard-premiered “Change Up,” a skeletal kick-drum driven trap banger about staying true to your day ones after getting money. Featuring a hook from R&B star Bryson Tiller and production from Big Fruit (Yo Gotti’s “Law”), Soundcloud users have played “Change Up” over 222,000 times. Jxmmi of Rae Sremmurd joins Lil Lonnie on low-key radio-friendly ode to pimpin’ “Jealous,” produced by Trell Got Wings. It’s only a matter of time before one of these tracks finds its way to radio and propels Lil Lonnie to the next level of stardom.
