The Video:
Wielding a formidable blend of impressionistic melodies and realistic lyrics, few rappers of his generation have the influence of Lil Durk. Carefully plotting revenge with the help of another stone-cold soldier, Durk plots with 21 Savage on “Die Slow.” An apocalyptic banger from Chopsquad DJ, who melds the grandeur of Chicago drill with the bouncy danceability of ATL trap, “Die Slow” finds Durk abandoning his signature auto-tune to fire off seething missives at his numerous enemies. In the video, directed by Rock Davis, Durk and 21 don dapper attire, strutting into a casino like they own the place. After a few successful turns at the tables, the two emcees leave and bring in a cadre of masked female accomplices to do their dirty work, carrying bags of cash to their secluded warehouse.
“Die Slow” is a highlight track from Love Songs 4 The Streets 2, Durk’s highly-successful 2019 album. Peaking at #4 on the Billboard 200 with 44,000 album-equivalent units and 52.7 million streams in its debut week, Love Songs 4 The Streets 2 stresses the duality of Durk, presenting the face he shows at home with his fiancé India with smooth and emotionally intelligent romantic jams and projecting his street strength on intense anthems.
