Lil Durk Announces 11/9 Release Date for Signed To The Streets 3 Album, Shares New Cover Art
The Chicago Street Hero Celebrates His 26th Birthday by Recruiting Lil Skies for Overdriven Guitar Anthem “Rockstar”
10.19.2018
Critical Praise:
“Unshackled from any kind of outline, Durk’s pen game shines. His rise was dotted with blood-soaked tales that summarized much of drill’s appeal: ground-level glimpses at Chicago’s South Side that colored in the outline offered by grim murder statistics.” –Pitchfork
“Lil Durk continues to be one of the most consistent rappers out.” – The FADER
“the rose that blossomed from the concrete of Chi-Town’s drill music scene” – Billboard
The Announcement:
Starting his career as a promising rapper in Chicago’s “Class of 2012” wave of drill rappers, Lil Durk established a massive and eager fanbase with his soaring melodies and raw honesty. Continuing an acclaimed and popular series of projects he started as a 21-year-old in 2013, Lil Durk officially announces Signed To The Streets 3, his upcoming project. Featuring a star-studded guest list of newcomers and established icons alike, Signed To The Streets 3 is a coronation for Lil Durk, affirming his position as a major rap star and confirming his influence on a new generation of melodic street rappers. The upcoming album features popular previously-released singles like the Future-featuring “Spin The Block,” which has over 11.5 million views on YouTube, the recently released “Downfall,” with guest spots from Young Dolph and Lil Baby, and the slow-burning hit “Home Body,” featuring Gunna and TK Kravitz, which has over 5.4 million plays on Spotify and is currently burning up rap radio. Signed to the Streets 3 releases on November 9th via Alamo/Interscope.
To accompany the release date announcement for STTS 3, Durk shares “Rockstar,” an infectiously hard new single. Bending his cadence within the modal arpeggiations of an overdriven electric guitar, Lil Durk expounds upon the advantages and drawbacks of the life of a rock god: “Rockstar lifestyle might not make it/Put prescription drugs on my tongue I had to take it/Keep my secrets deep down inside I had to face it/For you I put my life on the line that shit felt crazy.” “Rockstar” boasts a earwormy guest verse from Lil Skies, who imitates Durk’s melodic flow and reflects on the romantic side of a tragic rockstar death: “And if I die at night bury me in my dreams.”
Lil Durk is having a busy 2018, marked by multiple mixtapes, a label change from Def Jam to Alamo, and a move from Chicago to Atlanta. In March, he released his first project since departing Def Jam, Just Cause Y’all Waited, an important transitional record for Durk. Praised by Pitchfork, who wrote “Lil Durk writes about Chicago the way Joan Didion once captured California,” Just Cause Y’all Waited features tracks such as the buzzing “1-773 Vulture,” a street remix to Logic’s hit single “1-800-273-8255” that reached the 9 million view mark on YouTube, and the Lil Baby-featuring lead single “How I Know,” which earned prominent placement on Spotify’s Most Necessary playlist. Featuring additional appearances from PartyNextDoor, Ty Dolla $ign, Gunna, and TK Kravitz, and with production from 808 Mafia and others, Just Cause Y’all Waited EP is a formidable appetizer for Signed to the Streets 3, due later this year. Lil Durk turned heads when he performed his hits in a prime time slot, and later joined Tee Grizzley onstage at the Rolling Loud Festival in Miami (catch a few clips from this performance and from backstage in the “Remembrance” video) and recently showed off his label signees with Lil Durk Presents: Only The Family Involved Vol. 1.
