Video: Lil Durk – “1 (773) Vulture”

The Drill Icon Dedicates His “1-800-273-8255” Remix to Recently Departed Chicago Legend Fredo Santana

1.30.2018

Critical Praise:

“Unshackled from any kind of outline, Durk’s pen game shines. His rise was dotted with blood-soaked tales that summarized much of drill’s appeal: ground-level glimpses at Chicago’s South Side that colored in the outline offered by grim murder statistics.” –Pitchfork

The Video:

A master of melodic rap music, Lil Durk stands up for his birth city of Chicago with every breath. Earlier this month, Lil Durk released 1-(773) Vulture,” a street twist on Logic‘s smash hit “1-800-273-8255.” Flipping the suicide-prevention theme of the original track, Durk spins the track with introspective lines about street life and homicide. In the video, which already has over 650k views on YouTube, Durk focuses on the tragedies that pervade street life, ranging from gun violence to drug addiction, and innocents who get caught in the crossfire. Dedicated to Lil Durk’s fellow Chicago rapper Fredo Santana, who passed away last week, the video is a moving and melodic tribute to those who worry they might not make it to the next day.

The new  follows Durk’s “India” video, which he dedicated to girlfriend India Royale. The visual is from October’s Signed to the Streets 2.5, one of Durk’s four projects in 2017. The OTF spitter turned heads in December with Bloodas, an album-length collaboration with Detroit rapper Tee Grizzley. Earlier that Summer, Durk teamed up with fellow Drill movement rapper Lil Reese for their Supa Vultures EP. 2017 also cemented Durk as one of Hip-Hop’s most prolific collaborators, appearing on Young Thug’EBBTGTrae Tha Truth‘s Tha Truth 3Mozzy‘s 1 Up Top Ahk, and Ralo x Gucci Mane‘s Ralo LaFlare. Fans can stay tuned for Signed To The Streets 3, slated to release this year.

The Background:

EMPIRE Background

EMPIRE was founded in 2010 as an artist-friendly, progressive digital distribution company. After early success, and identifying future icons such as Kendrick Lamar, Sage The Gemini, and Rich Homie Quan, EMPIRE was quickly regarded as a tastemaker in the industry and throughout the past five years evolved into a full-fledged record label, distributor and publisher for independent musicians. With the company and roster growing at a breakneck pace, EMPIRE has effectively disrupted a stale business model by bringing its energy, expertise, and acumen to its artists and labels.
