Few rappers in any city can spit aggressive, streetwise rhymes like Chicago’s King Von. Hosting a party to celebrate his enemy’s financial misfortune, Von shares the CrownSoHeavy-directed video for “Broke Opps.” Produced by Von’s frequent behind-the-boards associate Chopsquad DJ, “Broke Opps” is a demonic drill score-settler, the Only The Family rapper taking aim at haters who can’t compete with his shine: “F*ck that, let’s talk about Louis, Amiri, and Gucci and Prada and sh*t/When I go to the store, they closing’ the door and they bringing’ me bottles and sh*t.” In the video, Von hosts a soiree in his native O-Block, donning a bejeweled face mask and a designer parka as he flashes his cash at the camera. “Broke Opps” is the latest video from LeVon James, Von’s acclaimed new album.

With a title that alludes to Von’s G.O.A.T. aspirations and a cover that pays homage to LeBron James’s pre-game chalk ritual, LeVon James is a fierce and invigorating listen, painting a vivid picture of Chicago chaos atop glistening instrumentals from Chopsquad DJ and others. The Background:
King Von was born in the South Side of Chicago, growing up in O Block, the area that produced Chief Keef. After rightfully beating an erroneous murder charge that could have put him away for life, King Von took inspiration from heroes like Lil Wayne and turned to rapping, linking up with Lil Durk who signed him to his OTF label. Within six months, Von had a series of viral hits, including the sinister “Problems,” which has over 3.4 million views after its debut on Lil Durk’s YouTube channel, and the defiant “War Wit Us,” which has over 3.8 million YouTube views. With “Crazy Story” currently burning up urban radio (it recently reached #76 on the nationwide chart), Von seems to be on the fast track to translate his fervent local following into national fame.
