The Multi-Talented Artist Shares an Inventive New Clip From Her Deeply Personal CRY 4 HELP EP, Unveils Cover Art and Tracklist
Critical Praise for Kari Faux:
“Kari Faux’s profile has been steadily rising since she posted her debut EP to Soundcloud three years ago” – Vogue
“In L.A., Kari ingested the spirit of L.A.’s G-Funk sound, combining it with sunny, jazzy, vocals and embellishments, channeling this recipe into her her debut album Lost En Los Angeles. The album, which was produced and recorded in Kari’s bedroom—and put out by Kari on Soundcloud and other streaming services by Kari herself, independently—became a kind of under the radar hit, attracting attention from critics and musicians alike for it’s wide eyed, optimistic yet realistic view of the joys and stress of living, working, and dreaming in Los Angeles as a young person.” – Forbes
“Low key and restrained, Lost En Los Angeles depicts Kari Faux’s life in the city as a bummer fantasia, a quietly surreal trip through sounds dripped in jazz, 70s funk, and psychedelia, a sound courtesy of go-to collaborator Black Party.” – Noisey
An influential, genre-bending and multi-faceted artist, Kari Faux is a captivating and refreshingly honest presence on the microphone. Returning to the fold with a deeply personal and affecting new project, Kari Faux prepares for CRY 4 HELP EP, her first new project since 2017. Though the subject matter is heavy, the music is rich and engrossing, as Kari alternates her soft singing voice with plainspoken rhymes, fully inhabiting each instrumental and walking the line between rap and R&B. Whether she’s singing or rapping, Kari probes the depths of her conscious and subconscious with musicality and wit. The project reaches an emotional climax with the closing track “Latch Key,” a devastating account of Kari’s recent and distant history. Featuring an appearance from Curren$y, CRY 4 HELP hits the internet on March 8th.
To accompany the reveal of the EP’s tracklist and cover art, Kari shares “Leave Me Alone,” her new music video. A slinky piece of futuristic R&B, “Leave Me Alone” finds Kari switching between a deadpan delivery on the verses and an entrancing falsetto on the chorus, dismissing those who only care about her for her fame. An inventive commentary on our constant state of connectivity, Kari Faux unsuccessfully tries to shut herself off from the world in “Leave Me Alone,” holing up in a hotel room to avoid everyone and anyone. When she finally gets sick of the incessant calls, Kari heads to a nearby baseball diamond to smash her phone with a bat. Baltimore art rapper JPEGMAFIA makes a cameo appearance at the end of the video.
