HotNewHipHop Premieres the Introspective, Distortion-Heavy Rap/R&B Hybrid From JAYLIEN’s Upcoming EP

Critical Praise for Jaylien

““[JAYLIEN’s] debut EP, Summer’s Over, is a rhythmic seven-song set that showcases his well-honed pop chops.” – NYLON

“It’s hard not to imagine a bright future in the spotlight.” – TIDAL

“Hit songwriter-producer JAYLIEN moves into the forefront with debut EP. [Summer’s Over] has an international flair, a combination of the various types of music he enjoys, including soul, EDM, rap and trap.” – St. Louis Post Dispatch

The Song:

JAYLIEN‘s unclassifiable hybrid of rap and R&B blends sonic elements from mainstream pop and underground electronic, all in the service of deep introspection and profound self-reflection. Wading through a murky cloud of pleasingly assonant synth pads, JAYLIEN laments the state of his relationship on Trust.” Plaintively and rhythmically harmonizing with a sped-up version of his own voice, the St. Louis triple threat bemoans his lover’s lack of faith–he never cheats, yet he cannot win his girl’s trust. Though the artist effectively conveys his melancholy, he never wallows in self-pity, returning to the track after a convincing false ending to powerfully plead for his beloved’s affection. Premiered by HotNewHipHop, “Trust,” which samples “Red” by popular producer XXYYXX, is the latest single from JAYLIEN’s next EP, coming later this year.

“‘Trust’ was inspired from a heated conversation I had with my woman while I was in the studio,” explains JAYLIEN. “She told me she could never trust me, but her reasons didn’t make any sense and just frustrated me. So with those emotions, I cut my phone off, pulled up this track from XXYYXX that I had saved in my back pocket and the words just poured out. I’ve been a fan of XXYYXX since 2012 when he dropped ‘About You,’ which SZA eventually turned into ‘Child’s Play.’ I always thought he should produce more because his style is very unique. When I originally heard ‘Red,’ I fell in love. I knew that I needed the right song for it, so once I had that argument it sparked everything. I pulled up the beat and was done in 30 minutes. Much love to XXYYXX.”

A multi-talented vocalist, producer, and songwriter, JAYLIEN began his music career as an in-demand songwriter in Los Angeles. After developing a reputation as a hitmaker by penning Akon‘s worldwide smash “Beautiful,” JAYLIEN produced for artists as diverse as Chris Brown, Cody Simpson, Cheryl Cole, T-Pain, LL Cool J,Quincy Jones, and T.I., striking biggest with “Scream and Shout,” a top five Billboard hit for and Britney Spears. Last year, JAYLIEN impressed critics and fans with Summer’s Over, his debut album as a vocalist, which featured singles such as “We Fcuk” and “Hotel Costes,” which The FADER called a “perfect song for radio.” Earning over a total million streams on SoundCloud, Summer’s Over convinced TIDAL to list JAYLIEN as an “Artist to Watch.” Most recently, JAYLIEN released the creepy and compellingLucky Guy, premiered by Ebro on Beats 1 Radiothe Tame Impala-sampling first single from JAYLIEN’s upcoming EP.

EMPIRE Background

EMPIRE was founded in 2010 as an artist-friendly, progressive digital distribution company. After early success, and identifying future icons such as Kendrick Lamar, Sage The Gemini, and Rich Homie Quan, EMPIRE was quickly regarded as a tastemaker in the industry and throughout the past five years evolved into a full-fledged record label, distributor and publisher for independent musicians. With the company and roster growing at a breakneck pace, EMPIRE has effectively disrupted a stale business model by bringing its energy, expertise, and acumen to its artists and labels.
