Webisode: Jahzel & The Black Key Collective – The Collective: Episode 4

Jahzel and his Black Key Collective document the second day of their jam-packed trip to New York City in the fourth episode of their six-part webisode series, presented by HipHopDX. The series follows the team as they navigate the music biz while managing an independent record label, from traveling and budgeting to working as a solid crew in the hectic industry.

In the previous episode we tracked Jahzel’s first day in the Big Apple, from freestyling for DJBooth TV’s RapBox to hosting a big dinner with important music industry contacts. Things kick up even more in webisode four as Jahzel preps for his meeting with MTV. Following the excitement of his album, The Wake Up, being available on iTunes, the team gets pumped for the day, putting together merch bags and running down the Manhattan streets to get to the studios on time. While at Viacom, Jahzel delivers a presentation to MTV and VH1 staffers, playing his album and pitching music videos for rotation on the networks.

Jahzel’s The Wake Up debuted via HotNewHipHop, who raved “Jahzel’s future brightens with every new release… we’re excited to hear more.” The release earned praises from Okayplayer, 2DopeBoyz, XXL, FakeShoreDrive, EARMILK, AllHipHop, and more. This momentum accompanies the team’s never-ending hustle as Jahzel is on his way to becoming one of Chicago’s finest MC’s.
