Cruising down Lakeshore Drive, Jahzel professes his love to Chicago with his new video for “Faithful,” debuting via Okayplayer. In the video Jahzel’s silhouette travels along famous landmarks, hitting up all corners of the city—from the shopping epicenter that is Mag Mile on Michigan Avenue to the Museum of Contemporary Art in the heart of downtown. We see a shot of the Navy Pier through the pillars of a Ferris wheel off the shoreline of Lake Michigan, a spot described nostalgically by Jahzel. “If you’re from Chicago, as a teen or college kid this is where you went in the summer to watch the fireworks and kick it,” he says. “A lot of Chicagoans had their first date, kiss, or drink here.”
Jahzel uses the city as his motivation as he effortlessly raps, “anywhere that I go, you will always have my heart and my soul/ Always come back to you ‘cause you know, forever be a part of me and it shows” over a sped up sample of DJ Rogers’ “Faithful To the End,” which was also popularly flipped by Kanye West for a collaborative track of the same title with Common. With a passion so pronounced, Jahzel has on his way to becoming one of Chicago’s top spokesmen.
The audio for “Faithful” first premiered via HotNewHipHop and the song proves Jahzel’s mentality—he is Chicago’s hustle at its finest, and his loyalty to the Windy City isn’t going anywhere. His album, The Wake Up, releases 1/19 via The Black Key Collective.

Only a true Chicagoan can fully understand the city’s hustle mentality – simultaneously holding down multiple jobs while going to school, taking care of our families, and being active in our communities, all while pursuing our dreams and goals. It’s the Chicago way. Chicago-born musician Jahzel, eats, sleeps, and breaths that mentality: “We [Chicagoans} are hustlers in general; we get it done,” he says proudly. “I am telling the story about Chicago that hasn’t been told – that along with the bad things that are happening, there are plenty of positive things going on. This is the real story of Chicago and I think people can relate to it.” Jahzel has always been a proud Chicagoan, and his most recent project, The Wake Up, is an ode to the city he holds dear.
