Video: Jaah SLT – “Intro/What We Know”
The Charlotte Rapper Combines Two 9-25-20 Highlights Into a Two-Part Video That Highlights His Vision and Versatility
Critical Praise:
“Be prepared to see a whole lot more of Jaah in the coming months as he continues his ascension.” – ELEVATOR
The Video:
Alternating defiant, confrontational bangers with dreamy trap ballads, Jaah SLT contains multitudes. Showing off two sides of his unique rap approach in a single statement, Jaah shares “Intro/What We Do,” a new two-part music video. A fiercely intense mission statement, “Intro” is an aggressive assertion of Jaah’s towering confidence, as he ramps up his vocal intensity over the course of the bite-sized song: “Made my path and I did it my way, so f*ck what you thought and f*ck what you say,” shouts Jaah over stabs of sawtooth synth. Meanwhile, “What We Do” is reflective and laid back, displaying the same confidence but showcasing a softer, conversational flow with the addition of lilting melodies in the hook.
The new 2-part video offers a distinct visual palette for each song. During “Intro,” directed by LKS Visuals, a furious Jaah shakes his blonde dreads in front of a series of evolving backdrops, from a yellow soundstage that echoes the color scheme of parent album 9-25-20 to an ice blue environment and a packed concert venue. For “What We Do,” director Lxrch offers a more contemplative visual accompaniment, filling the frames with images of nature, including a flourishing garden and beanstalks that stretch to the sky, and with oil paintings of Jaah himself (adding moving lips to the still images in a manner that evokes the opening credits of Spongebob Squarepants). “Intro/What We Do” follows the video for “Right Now,” which features an appearance from Young Nudy.
Alternating lurching monster-movie instrumentals and hypnotic vibe-setters, 9-25-20 finds the 20-year-old rapper showing off his athletic rhymes, stacking boasts together in sing-song cadences as he slices through any beat that he encounters. Lyrically, the Alamo Records signee swaps witty quips with confident assertions that he’s destined for great things. The tape features previously released highlights like “Out Of My Body“ (116k views) and the come-up anthem “Grimey.” The 20-year-old’s second project of 2020, 9-25-20 features appearances from SLT crew members Sleep Walkin SLT, Nsikan SLT, and Loweye SLT and is available everywhere via Alamo Records.

The Background:
With uniquely animated vocalizations over trap-punk beats, rapper Jaah SLT—a nickname spawned from a mashup of Charlotte’s airport code, CLT, and a childhood fight club named SALT—first caught viral attention with his 2019 single, “Tuff.” With the song soundtracking playful Tik Tok videos and charting high on Spotify Viral Charts, Shazam Top 200 and Rolling Stone Charts, the North Carolina native is quietly emerging from the internet underground to solid hip-hop spotlight.
