What started out as a sleeper hit, has now reached epic proportions. Rapper and producer Sage the Gemini created the song with fellow HBK member Iamsu! in October of 2012 and it slowly took over California, then The South, then the rest of the country and now people are discovering their family members dancing to the song on social media.

Sage the Gemini and Iamsu! are teaming up for a special show in LA this Friday as part of IHeartComix’ Check Yo Ponytail party series that’s taking place at the Echoplex, along with “Don’t Drop That Thun Thun Thun” creators The Finnaticz, Kool John, and Brrrang-a-Dang. And to celebrate, LA-based DJ and producer Salva created a mix for HBK Gang as an exclusive for CYP2. While Salva hustles for his dream of one day reaching pop super-producer status, this LA-favorite DJ and producer stays busy globetrotting the club and festival circuit, hosting and mixing on radio shows on BBC Radio 1 and Power 106 LA respectively, and performing as a live DJ for rappers like Pusha T, Riff Raff and others. With his co-remix (and arguably last years biggest EDM club track) of Kanye’s “Mercy” and his slamming remix of Problem’s “Like Whaaat” — him and his contemporaries are responsible for the next wave of Rap and R&B hits fused with electronic music.

The CPY2 mix features some of the most coveted rappers from The Bay to LA, including Iamsu!, Sage The Gemini and HBK counterparts P-Lo, Jay Ant, as well as 100s, Problem, and more…with their tracks flipped up like they’ve never been before. This mix also features a brand new Salva remix of “Gas Pedal” and other never-heard-before heard DJ edits.

Iamsu! Background:

2012 was nothing short of a breakout year for Iamsu! The 22-year-old popped up with a triple-threat performance on LoveRance’s “UP!,” which Su! produced, penned the hook for, and guested on with a scene-stealing verse. The song peaked at number one on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop chart, and in the midst of that success, Su! again delivered a fan-favorite verse on a big-time radio single, this time with E-40′s”Function.” Su! followed that success with a solo mixtape, KILT, and the critical acclaim came in droves, as the project was hailed by SPIN as their Rap Release Of The Week, with the outlet also naming Su! as one of their 5 Best New Artists for June ’12. Su!’s been plenty busy since – a west coast tour; a collaborative mixtape with Jay Ant; a standout collaboration with Wiz Khalifa, “Bout Me,” that appeared on Khalifa’s Cabin Fever 2 and will also show up on his sophomore album, O.N.I.F.C.
