LP: Genius x Felipe – A Eastside Story: Deluxe Edition
The DJ/Artist Shares New Project with Appearances by K Camp, Que and Scotty ATL

The LP:
Jamaica-born, Atlanta-bred Genius is an unheralded architect of the ATL trap scene, working behind the scenes as a DJ, curator, and mixtape host in the influential music city. With today’s release of A Eastside Story: Deluxe Edition, Genius grabs the spotlight demonstrating his considerable abilities on the mic. The LP is a collaborative effort with newcomer Felipe, and the two artists demonstrate close chemistry, trading bars and providing each other with auto-tuned ad-libs. “Felipe is my good friend and a young artist who I had been working with,” explains Genius. “He captures what is going on in his life growing up and living on the east side of Atlanta. We meshed together our stories from two different perspectives growing up in the same place.” The project includes features from K Camp, Que, Hoodrich Pablo Juan, Mr. 2-17,K-Noe, Rich Espy, T-Hood, Coca Vango, Scotty ATL, and Two-9.
Genius explains the origin of A Eastside Story: Deluxe Edition: “This LP is a compilation of experiences I had growing up as an adolescent in the Stone Mountain/Decatur area of Atlanta, going away to college, and then moving back to the Eastside. Each track describes a certain time or state of mind I was in during my story. The production resonates with a dark trap sound from Flair Fifth and Beat Attikz, brought to life with storytelling hi-hats and the emotional melodies of Musik MajorX. A Eastside Story: Deluxe Edition is also the first time I decided to add my own vocals to my songs. On previous projects, I was more influ-ential behind the boards. On A Eastside Story, I wanted people to feel my story and the only real way to convey that was to be vocal on the project.”
Prior to the LP’s release, Genius dropped the Scotty ATL-featuring “Never Satisfied,” premiered by2DopeBoyz, as well as the K-Noe featuring trap banger “Ego Trippin‘.” Last month, VIBE debuted “Movie 2.0,” featuring Que and frequent collaborator K Camp. Later, HipHopDX shared the “Make It Work“ video, in which Genius and Felipe mob out on a liquor store run. Genius recently dropped the XXL-premiered 45-track “Gucci’s Home” mix, dedicated to Gucci Mane and celebrating the rapper’s release from prison. Currently K Camp’s DJ, Genius has hosted Migos‘ first two mixtapes and worked with artists such as 2 Chainz, Travis Porter, Scotty ATL, and more in his early days as an artist. Immigrating to Atlanta at the age of 13, Genius grew up idolizing the DJ’s, or “selectors,” in his home country of Jamaica and decided that he wanted to learn the craft to the very best he could. Blown away by the technology available in the U.S., Genius quickly became the plug for selling mix CD’s in high school, blending current hits with his reggae collection. Selling mixes turned into throwing parties for big money in college, where he brought Drake and Nicki Minaj to Georgia Southern University.
