The Album:
After a successful campaign of singles over the past 6 weeks, Devin Miles’ highly anticipated album Pixburgh drops today via HotNewHipHop. The young Steel City rapper advocates that the album seeks to explore the “real-life” Pittsburgh contrary to the pop culture stereotypes of partying, cheesesteaks and football hooligans. In his interview/album announcement with HipHopDX Miles spoke about the album saying that “my story in Pixburgh is going to be from the observer and note-taker’s perspective. I’ve never been a crazy partier, I just learned an appreciation for how people were in this city and what kind of things they got into and was able to report on it, i.e. rap about it.”
Devin Miles has been prominent in the promotion of the album, which began with the first single “Came Up.” XXL premiered the track stating that “Devin does a great job of juxtaposing his past and present situations, giving the listener a vivid picture of where he came from, and why his current success deserves to be celebrated.” Devin followed this release with a loose single “No Different,” which debuted via Okayplayer who claim “there’s a serious swagger to this young MC, one that isn’t hinged on shiny things or acting too tough.” Last week Miles released the second single from the album, “Chess, Not Checkers” with Pittsburgh MC, Hardo. The track speaks about battling to stay ahead of the competition premiered via HotNewHipHop who stated that “both rappers turn in bars that prove to us they’re the Grandmasters of this shit.”
The goal of Pixburgh is to explore the depths of Pittsburgh through Devin Miles’ upbringing and struggle to achieve success. On the title track “PIXBURGH” Miles speaks to his city, discussing the transition from lack of respect to earning the heart of Pitts. In advocating his story, Miles speaks about chasing you dreams especially in tracks like “Mirror rorriM” and “Don’t Be Scared” stating that “you shouldn’t be afraid to do what you want to do and go after your dreams, no matter how far fetched or what anyone tells you. ‘Do whatever you like, you gotta be bold, you gotta dare to dream.’” The album is currently available for purchase on iTunes.

Devin Miles’ Background:
Standing strong at 500,000 YouTube views coupled with a million Soundcloud plays, Devin Miles is the latest self-made voice from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania challenging he status quo of hip-hop. However, contrary to local voices like Wiz Khalifa and Mac Miller—the latter of whom has been a longtime close friend—Miles aims to show his personal Pixburgh, a complex view of city-life. “I’m trying to show people the depth of Pitt,” says the early-twenties rapper and producer, disagreeing with pop culture’s portrayal of partying, Steelers, and stacked sandwiches. His title, an homage to the regional dialect, represents a star who came from and thrives in a unique place and time. Fused with Devin’s most honest and courageous lyrics to date, the Fall 2014 release is candid snapshots of the artist and the man, immersed in his city.
