Danny Towers Shares Brand New Video for “Wookiez” from Safe House Album w/ DJ Scheme
Danny Towers Makes the Room Shake in Latest Video from His Safe House Project, a Full-Length Collaboration With Fellow Floridian DJ Scheme
“Danny Towers has always stayed down, whether working on his craft or coming up through the ranks” – XXL
“DJ Scheme is a driving force behind Miami’s Members Only collective, and his menacing beats helped turn XXXTentacion and Juice WRLD into household names.” – Consequence of Sound
“Throughout his lyrics [on ‘Florida Water’], Towers markedly taunts haters, reminding them that he’s not afraid to throw them in the shark-infested ocean that separates his home state and Cuba.” – HotNewHipHop
“The Palm Beach-raised music curator and general of vibes Gabe Guerra, better known as DJ Scheme, is among the biggest influencers in South Florida hip-hop…Think of him as DJ Clue to Miami’s up-and-coming Jay-Zs.” – Miami New Times
Two of the biggest steppers in the Florida rap scene, Danny Towers & DJ Scheme know what it takes to get it shaking. Announcing their presence with an abundance of booming bass, the duo return to share their latest video for “Wookiez,” a standout from their recent Safe House project. A minimalist banger with bare-bones digital melodies and hair-raising percussion, the track lays a perfect foundation for Danny to alternately growl and whisper some staggered bars: “I pour a 4 in the pineapple Fanta, I probably forgot what I said/I get to upping that b*tch, I go dumb, they gon’ think I forgot all my meds”
The video for “Wookiez” follows the same minimalist approach as the track’s production, with Danny standing alone before a solid white backdrop, accompanied only by countless rows of bass-bumping speakers. Even in the absence of typical video production bells and whistles, Danny commands undivided attention throughout, his basso voice reverberating along with the subwoofers.
“Wookiez” arrives following recent videos for the C Stunna-assisted “Rolls Truck” and the Loe Shimmy-featuring “Chunky Munkey,” all of which appear on Safe House, home to the viral single, “Florida Water” ft. Luh Tyler & Ski Mask The Slump God, which earned praise from XXL, Stereogum, HotNewHipHop, and more. “Florida Water” inspired a photo dump trend on TikTok, where creators drop the flyest selfies in their Photos app as the beat drops and Danny’s infectious hook, “Threw him in that water, I’m from Florida, but my wrist Cuban,” gives way to Luh Tyler’s croaking verse. Peaking at #1 on TikTok’s trending charts, the song generated over 200k video creations on TikTok, over 40 million streams across platforms, and reached the top spot on SoundCloud’s daily chart.
Along with “Florida Water” is an eclectic array of bangers, designed to deliver the “that weed-blowin’, lean-pourin’, real gangsta music” that Danny promises in his viral hit. Kicking off with a soul sample, opener “Wide Awake” quickly shifts gears, riding sinister sliding 808s and fast-paced snares to deliver a high-octane mission statement. “Kreepin,” featuring Florida underground progenitor Denzel Curry, combines that buzzing bass sound with a sample that reflects the irreverent dance music that animated Miami in the 90s. Danny goes toe-to-toe with Robb Bank$ over a haunting sample of a 1970s anti-war anthem, while the Ronny J-produced single “Paranoid” reverberates with a bombast that echoes The Runners, the famed ’00s production duo (credits include Rick Ross’s “Hustlin'”) from Danny’s hometown of Orlando. Out now on all platforms via EMPIRE, Safe House is the culmination of a long-lasting friendship, which already produced two GOLD-certified collaborations with Ski Mask The Slump God and Lil Yachty: “How You Feel?” and “E-ER.”
Stay tuned for more from the 2x GOLD-certified Florida rap playmakers as the year rolls on.
