The Video:
Last week Bay Area queen of all things twerk Chippy Nonstop released her 5-track EP #finallyverified, and today MTVHive premiered her latest visual for the song “Pimpin Season.” The video, directed by Jordan Levine and produced by Rafael Francisco of Francisco Productions and 11D Media, finds Chippy and her posse of girls in short shorts cruising the streets in a classic Mustang convertible as she collects cash from ladies on the stroll. References to the world’s oldest profession, however, are all tongue-in-cheek, Chippy insists, “The song is just about when it gets hot out and it’s summer time, everyone is just down to have a fun with each other, if you know what I mean. It’s not actually about pimpin’ bitches.”
While “Pimpin Season” may not be literal, Chippy’s stylistic, lyrical and visual cues throughout the track and video are an intentional nod to hip hop culture in her home base. “Some of the word selection and the beat are very inspired by the Bay Area. I give a shout out to Too $hort because he’s the main mack of the Bay…after all, he is ‘Shorty the Pimp.'” Chippy is currently promoting the new EP and most recently performed at the Red Bull Sound Select show at DROM in New York City.

Chippy Nonstop is an audacious, undeniable party starter. She is of Indian descent but is more of a cultural nomad; she was born in Dubai, grew up in Zambia, has citizenship in Canada, and currently lives in Oakland. Chippy makes “electro-trap” music that combines dance, hip-hop, and world sounds. She was featured on the recent Kreayshawn, Major Lazer, Big Baby Gandhi and Star Slinger albums. Chippy has released her first solo EP, MoneyDance101, the #GLOBALSKOOLOFTWERK mixtape, and most recent EP #finallyverified.
