Annihilating beats with her ferocious flow, Big Jade can make any beat her own–no matter how famous the original song. Putting her stamp on a beloved ’00s rap hit, Big Jade samples Lil Mama in her new “Lip Gloss” freestyle and music video. The song’s instantly recognizable boom-clap beat is the ideal canvas for Jade to inject her East Texas attitude, peppering in references to the original song while attacking the beat from a wholly different angle than Lil Mama tried in the original song: “B*tches don’t like me/And Ion like hoes neither/And I don’t care if y’all was friends/I don’t need y’all neither.” In the video, a green-haired Jade relaxes in the studio with her team as she shows off her skills. The new freestyle is Jade’s first release since her acclaimed debut project Pressure, and will appear on her sample-heavy upcoming mixtape Jade Wins, due later this summer.

“I got the attention of the right people by being genuinely myself,” explains rapper Big Jade.
From Beaumont, Texas, the 26-year-old spitter made a name for herself by releasing a series of videos online that showcased her rapping ability. However, her Beatking-produced “RPM” showed a woman juggling rap dreams while doing hair. She was unashamed, unapologetic, and uncut. “It was real. That’s how I grind and get money,” admits Jade. “I’m not out here getting rap money yet; I’m popular on Instagram. Rappers are scared to say they’re doing something else just to make it. Where are you getting the money to invest in yourself and make it happen? Because that’s where it all starts for all of us.” Newly signed to Alamo Records, Big Jade took those steps to get noticed, and now she hopes to put herself and her city on the map.
