Project: Jaah SLT – 9-25-20

The Alamo Records Signee Refines His “Trap Punk” Style on His Latest Project and Shares the Video for Project Highlight “Chevy”

Critical Praise:

“Be prepared to see a whole lot more of Jaah in the coming months as he continues his ascension.” – ELEVATOR

The Project + Video:

Transforming tracks with his conversational flow and his force of personality, Jaah SLT is the next North Carolina rapper to blow. Coming through with a 10-pack of charismatic “trap punk” bangers, Jaah shares 9-25-20, his new project. Alternating lurching monster-movie instrumentals and hypnotic vibe-setters, 9-25-20 finds the 20-year-old rapper showing off his athletic rhymes, stacking boasts together in sing-song cadences as he slices through any beat that he encounters. Lyrically, the Alamo Records signee trades witty quips with confident assertions that he’s destined for great things. Featuring appearances from Young Nudy and from SLT crew members Sleep Walkin SLT, Nsikan SLT, and Loweye SLT9-25-20 is available everywhere via Alamo Records.

“I started naming tapes after dates in 2019,” says Jaah SLT. “When I’m recording, I get into a zone and I try so many different things in the booth, that it can be hard for me to nail down exactly what was going through my head when I was spitting. But when I go back and listen to all my tapes, it’s like a time capsule that puts me right back in the frame of mind I was in when I made those songs. Each tape marks a crucial moment in my life as an artist.”

Along with the tape, Jaah shares the new video for “Chevy.” Switching from conversational flows to full-throated shouts and back, Jaah keeps listeners on their toes with his twisty and confident bars: “Damn let me stop/Know I got the drop/Ion even bang, but you still get shot/Oh goddamn, don’t ask for a gram/Just get that f*ckin’ zip my man!” In the video for “Chevy,” directed by Lurxh, Jaah straps on his signature pink backpack and bounces to the beat, showing off his titular domestic model as he mugs for the camera.

The follow-up to 2-7-2020, an energetic 7-track EP, 9-25-20 is the latest step on Jaah’s journey to stardom. The new tape features previously released highlights like the laidback “Right Now” ft. Young Nudy, the psychedelic Out Of My Body (100k views) and the come-up anthem Grimey.

The young rapper’s varied artistic approach springs from his upbringing in Charlotte, where he had friends on either side of this country’s stark economic divide. As he traversed both worlds, Jaah learned to accept what made him different from his peers, particularly his voracious appetite for music of all types–a tendency he got from his father, a former rapper who introduced Jaah to legendary artists like KRS-One and Led Zeppelin. Recently, Jaah’s been digging Young Thug, Makonnen, and Bladee, but he’s also a metalhead, drawn to bands like Slipknot and Korn.

With a growing fanbase in his home state, Jaah SLT is riding a wave of momentum in the wake of  Tuff,” his biggest hit to date. The Brelly Beats-produced anti-police turn-up anthem recently crossed the 1 million view threshold on YouTube, and reached the Spotify’s US Viral 50 chart and Rolling Stone‘s Breakthrough 25 chart in May. Released in September 2019, “Tuff” experienced a slow-and-steady rise, eventually catching fire on TikTok (nearly 300k video creations) and making its way to urban radio in North Carolina. This summer, Jaah has treated his fans to a series of quality singles, including  Same Me” and Dottin Up,” which earned a premiere in Lyrical Lemonade and racked up over 375k views on YouTube.

The Background:

With uniquely animated vocalizations over trap-punk beats, rapper Jaah SLT—a nickname spawned from a mashup of Charlotte’s airport code, CLT, and a childhood fight club named SALT—first caught viral attention with his 2019 single, “Tuff.” With the song soundtracking playful Tik Tok videos and charting high on Spotify Viral Charts, Shazam Top 200 and Rolling Stone Charts, the North Carolina native is quietly emerging from the internet underground to solid hip-hop spotlight.
