“The King of contemporary Detroit rap” – HYPEBEAST
“‘Champions’ is arguably the best single out of Detroit this year” – Pitchfork
“As a Detroit hip-hop veteran, Icewear Vezzo has earned his position in the city’s hierarchy. With his first mixtape, The Clarity, dropping in 2013, and turning into a series, along with his presence in Detroit, the groundwork he’s put in over time is respected.” – XXL
A quintessential connector and a towering figure in the Detroit rap scene, Icewear Vezzo hustled hard to create a successful rap career and a flourishing entrepreneurial empire. Examining his origins and saluting the bustling hometown Detroit scene he helped foster, Vezzo announces Rich Off Pints, his upcoming mixtape. Rich Off Pints reflects Vezzo’s self-made status, harkening back to the days when he had to turn to illicit activities to survive, but taking in comfort in the fact that he’s escaped that life and is wealthy in ways that transcend monetary value (“Used to have sh*t to live for, now I have plenty reasons,” spits Vezzo on project highlight “Still With Me”).
Throughout, Vezzo is cool, calm, and collected, methodically delivering detailed accounts of his exploits as a striver and a thriver with an easygoing rasp. Vezzo takes pride in his role as a monumental figure in Detroit’s music scene, inviting some of the most exciting Michigan rappers in the scene to share the spotlight with him, including Rio Da Yung OG, Peezy, Louie Ray, and more, and rhyming over production from Detroit area sound architects like Max Beats and Michigan Meech. With additional appearances from respected names like Trippie Redd, Lil Yachty, EST Gee, Dreezy, BIG 30, and more, Rich Off Pints arrives on May 21st via Iced Up Records/Active Mindz Music Group.
Along with the announcement of Rich Off Pints, Vezzo shares “New Day,” a hard-hitting new music video. Produced by Detroit sound architect Helluva, known for his hits with Tee Grizzley and more, the hard-hitting “New Day” puts a new spin on the sample famously used in “Dipset Anthem,” splicing in booming 808s and propulsive hi-hats. Icewear Vezzo and Iced Up Records signee IUR Jetto trade streetwise verses, nonchalantly explaining why they stunt harder than their haters ever will: “A real hustler everything get gone I put my hands on/30 inches put em on my dunk, I get my slam on,” asserts Vezzo. In the video, directed by SPRK, Vezzo and Jetto sip from styrofoam cups as they show off the starry ceiling in their Rolls Royce and post up with homies in a liquor store parking lot. The video for “New Day” follows high quality collaborations with Lil Durk for “Up The Scoe” (nearly 6 million YouTube views since early April) and Flint fan favorite YN Jay for “Autograph.”
Currently charting at #9 on Rolling Stone’s Breakthrough 25 chart, Vezzo is locked-in, making some of the best music thus far in his career and attracting A-List collaborators who respect his hustle. With Rich Off Pints, Vezzo tells his story while elevating artists from his Michigan community.
