“Yung Mal and Lil Quill have been pumping out a whole lot of music in recent times and are proving that they have what it takes to be next up.” – HotNewHipHop
“Yung Mal & Lil Quill have quickly become two of the most promising young artists coming out of Atlanta.” – Elevator
“If you like triplet after triplet of fluid, free flowing rhymes floated over trap house beats cooked up in the South then Yung Mal and Lil Quill got you.” – EARMILK
Sharing an almost telepathic chemistry, borne from their upbringing in Atlanta’s Zone 6 projects, Mal & Quill look to culminate their rise from Gucci Mane proteges into stars in their own right. Returning for their second hard-hitting project of 2018, Mal & Quill close out the year with Blessed Lil Bastards 3, a hypnotic set of bass-heavy trap. Though many ATL rappers opt to face the relentless grind as solo artists, Mal & Quill accentuate each other’s strengths, as Yung Mal’s smooth and percussive flow contrasts with Lil Quill’s clipped, drawly cadences and irreverent ad-libs. With previously released singles like the tumbling, eerie “Beat Monster,” the minor-key stuntfest “What’s Happenin,” and the exuberant Lil Gotit& Guap Tarantino collab “Live It Up,” Blessed Lil Bastards 3 is Mal & Quill’s most complete project yet. The duo meld their minds and create a two-headed monster–it’s often hard to pick out where one brain stops and the other begins. Featuring additional appearances from Hoodrich Pablo Juan, Q Money, and Lil Co, Blessed Lil Bastards 3 arrives via 1017 Eskimo/Alamo.
To accompany the release of the mixtape, Mal & Quill share “Miami,” a new music video. Speckled with Spanish guitar, “Miami” is a change-of-pace for the duo, a bright counterpoint to the rest of the tape’s atmospheric trap. In the video, the two rappers chill on a yacht in the canals of Miami, joined by their mentor Gucci Mane, their labelmate Z Money, and a group of gorgeous models. Rocking ornate and bright attire appropriate for their environment, and in Lil Quill’s case, the flyest sombrero you’ve ever seen, the XXL-premiered “Miami” finds the two childhood friends letting loose and cracking a smile.
Proudly representing East Atlanta’s Zone 6, Mal & Quill are rising up on a wave of grassroots support. The duo gained attention with their irrepressible energy, swapping rapidfire bars on hits like “Been In My Bag,” which has over 1.2 million views on YouTube. With support from Gucci Mane, who signed the duo to his 1017 Eskimo venture, Mal & Quill are on track to become ATL’s biggest rap group since Migos.
