YG, Nipsey Hussle, Freeway, Trae the Truth Feature On Bay Area Trio’s Collaborative EP

The EP:

After releasing their One Hunnid EP on iTunes last Tuesday, Bay Area rappers Blanco, The Jacka, and Messy Marv surprised fans with a free download of the album in celebration of every weed smoker’s favorite holiday, 4/20. The album charted in iTunes’ Top 100 Hip-Hop/R&B albums for the past week, and includes features from YG, Freeway, Nipsey Hussle, Mistah FAB, and Trae the Truth. The trio enlisted Grammy-winning production duo Tha Bizness, who handle the EP’s production in-full. Featuring Compton rapper YG, Complex premiered the EP’s lead single, “9/11,” in March, calling the song “a smooth cut that is meant to bump at high volumes.” The second single, “Change,” features Nipsey Hussle, and was debuted by AllHipHop this past weekend. Tracks like “The Grassy Knoll” set a melancholy tone criticizing society and taking an analytical approach to politics, while the gangsta-fied “I Am Not A Krook” holds as a player’s anthem.

Earlier this year, Blanco unleashed a flurry of releases. Starting with a series of free downloads of previously released albums, Blanco shared OBEY and Misfits, which are collaborative projects with The Jacka, Jonestown, which is with The Jacka and Messy Marv, and Raw, with Nipsey Hussle.

Blanco Background:

Blanco (formerly Benny Blanco) is a rapper born in Berkeley, California but bred throughout the Bay Area. Fascinated by gangsta rap at an early age, Blanco began rhyming at 17. In 2004, he and his brother founded hip-hop label Guerilla Entertainment, which to date has released upwards of over 20 mixtapes and albums. As a member of rap trio The Yay Boyz with fellow label mates Taj-He-Spitz and Lil Hyfe, Blanco released Got Purp (Volumes 1 and 2), The Wizeguys, and full-length album Nosebleed Muzic. He has gone on to release several solo projects, including Blanco’s Way and American Pyscho, and more collaborative albums, including Jonestown with Messy Marv and Jacka, and his latest, Raw, with Nipsey Hussle. Blanco has also collaborated with Gucci Mane, Redman, Freeway, Freddie Gibbs and Styles P, and released projects with Araab Muzik and Yukmouth.
