Critical Praise:

“Exes duck and cover, lame-ass dudes grab your shields—Bktherula is firing shots up and down LVL 5 Part 1. With a knack for vocal improvisation on par with Detroit’s finest and a delightfully random assortment of beats, the Atlanta rapper has made her best mixtape yet.”Pitchfork

“Bktherula can’t be contained. At 20, she’s far too restless to be boxed into a single subgenre. The 20-year-old Atlanta emcee lulls you with melodic runs one minute only to pummel you with pulverizing bars the next.”The FADER

“BKTHERULA Reaches New Dimensions on LVL5”Office Mag

“Atlanta’s Bktherula is letting go and levelling up…Fusing R&B, punk and alternative stylings, the 20-year-old rapper forms an unpredictable, meditative sound of her own”NME

“Bktherula is boundless, at times traversing – or at least trying to – the metaphysical. The destructive, menacing synths of ‘TAN’ see the rapper open her project with a brash brand of rap as she brags about walking in on some “money shit”, whereas moments later on “BELIEVE”, she’s crooning across undulating, moody soundscapes.” DAZED

The Announcement:

December 1, 2023 (Los Angeles, CA) – Today, Atlanta breakout Bktherula releases her new “It Wasn’t Me (Freestyle)” on all DSPs. Bk first debuted the rapid-fire track earlier this week on On The Radar Radio, generating thousands of social interactions (including 75k Instagram Likes) in its first 24 hours of release. Menacing and infectious, the track perfectly demonstrates why the Hip-Hop disruptor is taking the rap world by storm. It arrives as Bk prepares for the release of her upcoming album LVL5 P2.

“As long as I’m getting a bag, I put that shit on every day,” Bk spits over pulsing bass, ferocious howls, and unnerving percussion. The rising rapper’s wholly original approach and unbridled authenticity comes through in each and every bar.

“It Wasn’t Me (Freestyle)” arrives soon after the release of Bk’s single “TATTI,” which was preceded by “CRAZY GIRL 2” featuring YoungBoy Never Broke Again — a remix of “CRAZY GIRL” from this year’s LVL5 P1. Prior to all that, she released her EP Love Nirvana (Acoustic), featuring original and newly stripped-down versions of beloved tracks, including “UH HUH,” “Tweakin’ Together” and “Summer.”

The new single, as well as the rest of her new tunes, will receive a warm welcome when Bk joins PinkPantheress on her “Capable of Love Tour,” which will be trekking all over the U.S. in April of next year. Click HERE to buy tickets and see tour dates.

Just named to Forbes’ annual 30 Under 30 list, Bk has built a devoted following by releasing tracks that showcase her raw emotions. Now, with “It Wasn’t Me (Freestyle),” she’s done it again — delivering a track that’s as unique as it is captivating.

The Background:

Blending dystopian soundscapes with jumpy flows and ethereal melodies, Bktherula makes a new kind of rap psychedelia. Since breaking out with “Left Right” in 2019, she’s oscillated between raucous cloud rap and gentle R&B, fusing impressionistic songwriting with complex musicality to create affecting anthems that feel futuristic and universal. The 21-year-old has been rewarded with a growing legion of fans and a slot, in many critics’ estimations, as Atlanta’s next up. She’s planted more seeds with “Forever, Part 2 (Jezebel),” a celestial offering from LVL5 P1, her new EP on Warner Records. Bk is looking to continue her level up with major international music festival performances and NYFW and London Fashion Week runway shows. American headline tour. She is also committed to embracing herself like never before. Battling doubts and the occasional spurt of negativity is a type of spiritual warfare that’s led Bk to increased self-acceptance, a journey that empowers herself and her fans.
