Critical Praise for BKLYN1834:
“Brooklyn Communal Cool: The Brand”- New York Times
The Album:
Eclectic Brooklyn collective BKLYN1834 is releasing their first compilation album Comp_01 today via Billboard. The 7-track project ranges from indie pop to electronic to folk, with artists Saint Ballantine, Sanctuary Sound, NΔTIONS, ATR777, Bobby Only, and Foe Destroyer. BKLYN1834 is a victorian mansion based in Ditmas Park, Brooklyn that houses seven musicians, artists, producers, photographers, and creators. Comp_01 is the first in a series of EP’s the collective plans to release.
Comp_01 features tracks like “Enough,” the Saint Ballantine track that Pigeons and Planes premiered and described as a “low-key track that smoothly mixes soulful voices, electronic synths, primal drums, and crucial guitar chords until it reaches an even blend.” Flexing their creativity muscles, the artists of BKLYN1834 also shared their visual artistry with ethereal videos for NΔTIONS’ Earmilk-debuted track “My Ways” or ATR777’s Okayfuture-debuted “Down To be Your Man.” Telling a story which captures two lovers in various dream states, Foe Destroyer shared their sweet, playful video for “Unconditional Love” debuted by Complex, who described it, “untroubled, beach-ridden carefree love.”
Andrew Thomas Reid, the Creative Director of BKLYN1834 explains, “Comp_01 is the first attempt at explaining the community of artists living at the clubhouse,” adding, “We were able to support each other in each artists endeavor by co-writing and producing each song. We literally went from room to room while creating each song, pulling influences and sounds from everyone’s personal style. The compilation as a whole is what we were collectively writing throughout 2015.”
Having housed over 50 artists since its inception, the “Clubhouse” as it’s often referred to, is based on the salon-like atmosphere of Hitsville U.S.A. in Detroit and Gertrude Stein’s home in Paris, where artists and creatives could live together in a nurturing, co-op style situation, bouncing ideas off each other and collaborating one another. Previous and current BKLYN1834 residents have worked with Prince, Taylor Swift, Toby Keith, Snarky Puppy, Theophilus London, Freddie Gibbs, Pharaohe Monch, among others and have worked directly with Converse, the iconic New York Times building, Pepsi, Apple, and more. Compilation_01 is now available for stream and purchase.

BKLYN1834 Background:
BKLYN1834 is a talent incubator for young artists who live together in a co-op style Victorian Home in Ditmas Park, Brooklyn and create music, art, videos, comedy, and other creative content. Modeled after the salon-like atmosphere of Hitsville U.S.A. and Gertrude Stein’s home, founding resident and creative director of BKLYN134, Andrew Thomas Reid, traveled to Nicaragua and Spain to convince friends to move into the house in the summer of 2009.
BKLYN1834 supports young artists by providing them with a place to live, write, record and produce content in a creative and collaborative environment. Previous and current BKLYN1834 residents have worked with Prince, Taylor Swift, Toby Keith, Snarky Puppy, Theophilus London, Freddie Gibbs, Pharaohe Monch, Denitia and Sene, among others. Fittingly nicknamed “The Clubhouse,” the community has housed over 50 residents since its inception.
BKLYN1834’s long-term goal is to create a network of similar clubhouses across the country and around the world. By continuing to produce digital content in-house, we want to create a global community where artists, fans, and brands can all engage.
With more and more brands recognizing the value of authentic grassroots ideas that appeal to 18-34 yr olds, BKLYN1834 has already been tapped for collaborations by Pepsi, Converse, Apple and Blackstone Realty. Forbes called BKLYN1834 “a tool every marketer should have in its back pocket.”
