A curator of vibes, San Francsico rapper/entrepreneur Berner has exquisite taste. Retreating to a tropical paradise with a cadre of models and a fleet of jetskis, Berner shares “No Borders,” his latest video. Heavily influenced by Reggaeton and with an engaging hook from Latin rapper/singer Eladio Carrión, “No Borders” is a barrier-crossing banger, as Berner and Eladio make clear that getting faded feels the same in any area of the globe. In the video, directed by Farid, Berner and Eladio kick back in a seaside villa, smoking up under palm trees and enjoying the company of beautiful women. “No Borders” is the latest video from La Plaza, Berner’s 36th studio album and his fourth of 2019.
Complete with weeded-out beats (with live instrumentation) from the likes of The RZA, Scott Storch, and Cozmo, La Plaza is an atmospheric epic, as Berner welcomes his listeners into a world inspired by Mexico’s pre-cartel drug trade–a violent era of competing territories and bosses. To complement the the theme, Berner emphasizes a Latin flavor in the production, and recruits guest spots from Spanish-speaking emcees like De La Ghetto, Jon Z, Eladio Carrión, and Ñengo Flow. Along with La Plaza, Berner shared a feature-length documentary about the making of the album and Berner’s history, touching on all aspects of the Cookies SF founder’s career. Featuring appearances from Wiz Khalifa, Snoop Dogg, Fat Joe, Chris Brown, Mozzy, Cypress Hill, OMB Peezy, Nef The Pharaoh, Lil Pete, and more, La Plaza arrives via Bern One Entertainment/EMPIRE.
Berner is an accomplished entrepreneur in the Cannabis industry. His most famous creation is the Girl Scout Cookies strain, which helped birth Cookies SF, one of the world’s leading Cannabis lifestyle brands. Berner was intimately involved in the creation of the first marijuana dispensary in San Francisco’s Upper Haight district, founded Hemp2O, a hemp-based health beverage company, created the novelty (non-THC) chocolate company KoKoNuggz, founded Vibes, his own brand of rolling papers, and created Re:Stash, a company that makes childproof cannabis storage jars. The Background:
San Francisco native, Gilbert Milam Jr., better known in the rap game as Berner, has worked hard to become one of the Bay Area greats, alongside the likes of E-40, Mac Dre and Too $hort. Berner independently produced his first album in 2007, and has released several each year since. With his latest album, La Plaza, dropping on 11/11 of 2019, Berner stays busy and relevant in the industry. Constantly venturing into new territory with his music, Berner has an impressive list of artist collaborations on his resume, ranging from rap legends Wiz Khalifa, Snoop Dogg and B-Real, to production giants Scott Storch, RZA and Cozmo.
