Mixtape: BandGang Lonnie Bands & RJ Lamont – Talk That Shit 2

The BandGang Leader Shares His Latest Hypnotic Opus, Produced Entirely by Detroit’s RJ Lamont (Rick Ross, Gucci Mane)

8.18.2017

Critical Praise

“With short, uneven phrases and a rise-and-fall style that approximates the patterns of speech, he seems intent on developing a fresh approach that is as mesmerizing as it is unpredictable.” – Complex

The Mixtape:

Detroit upstart BandGang Lonnie Bands’ slick tough-talk and raspy, malleable flow combine to make him one of the biggest and best young emcees in his hometown of Detroit. Serving up an unadulterated helping of straight street music, Lonnie returns with Talk That Shit 2, his latest mixtape. Packed with hypnotic bangers and addictive riders’ anthems, Talk That Shit 2 represents another stage of evolution for the young rapper, with his distinctive cadence shaping catchphrases into indelible hooks. Produced entirely by RJ Lamont, one of Detroit’s top producers who has crafted minimalist, piano-driven tracks for the likes of Rick Ross and Gucci Mane, the project boasts previously released hits such as the dark, menacing “Fake Rappers“ (212k YouTube views), the appealingly filthy strip club anthem “Blac Chyna,” and yesterday’s “Bag It,” an infectious ode to the pursuit of getting money. Featuring appearances from Philthy Rich, Sada Baby, ShredGang Mone, and others, Talk That Shit 2 is another stepping stone on the path to street stardom for BandGang Lonnie Bands.

“RJ Lamont is my #1 guy in Detroit. It’s strictly for the streets,” BandGang Lonnie Bands says of Talk That Shit 2. “My favorite track, ‘Talk That Shit, Part 3’ – it’s what I go through, what I know. Detroit is tricky. You don’t know what to expect. It’s not like we got gangs, it’s just anything can happen. In Detroit, we value money over violence that has to do with affiliation or pride.”

One-sixth of Detroit rap collective BandGang, Lonnie Bands is making waves in the industry with his mesmerizing flow, a distinct rise and fall cadence Lonnie has been perfecting since he was a young boy. The 22-year-old broke out in 2016 with his viral hit “Whatever I Say,” the highlight from his mixtape Talk That Shit. Gaining millions of streams on SoundCloud and YouTube, the song quickly became one of the biggest rap hits in the Midwest for 2016. Named by Complex as one of the “10 Emerging Acts From 10 Cities You Should Know,” the prolific Lonnie practically lives in the studio. Since the release of his first big single, Lonnie already has three solo projects under his belt: Antisocial, Ghost of DeDe, and Cosigned by the Streets. He continues to crank out new music with Talk That Shit 2 and an upcoming group album from the full BandGang, due late in 2017.
