Critical Praise:
“Lifted by the recent success of Icewear Vezzo, Babyface Ray and Baby Money, Motor City hip-hop is gaining steam.” – Billboard
“Along with crafty bars, much of what has made Baby Money successful behind the mic has been a very authoritative tone he has in his voice. You feel his energy behind the bars just as clearly as you see the picture he’s lyrically painting. Whether he’s rapping about getting money or going against his opps, he makes you feel like you’re doing it all with him.” – Detroit Metro Times
“The slick-talking Detroit rapper is all flash and swag, and he’s an expert at making the listener feel broke” – Pitchfork
“Baby Money is a sharp, technical rapper with a good sense of humor who spits about making money and showing off as if it’s second nature” – XXL
“Along with fiery bars, much of what has made Baby Money successful has been his very commanding tone of voice. You feel his energy behind the lyrics just as clearly as you see the picture he’s painting.” – Okayplayer
The Album + Video:
With a natural rhyme ability and an unstoppable work ethic, Baby Money never stops grinding. Excising the toxic elements that distract from his focus on the hustle, the 27-year-old Detroit native releases Less Is More, his new album. Over 16 hard-hitting tracks, the West Sider affirms himself as Detroit’s most charismatic money-getter, bringing words of motivation for aspiring moguls and harsh taunts for his opposition. The rapper’s authoritative delivery fits perfectly atop the propulsive Michigan production, his matter-of-fact pronouncements delivered with a commanding conviction that could convince anyone to go out and start getting money.
Along with the new album, Baby Money shares the video for “Wow,” a new highlight. Kicking off with Miami Vice keyboards and vintage slap bass, “Wow” is an invigorating slice of Detroit electrofunk, providing the perfect backdrop for Baby to get his flex on. The rapper touts his ladies’ man bonafides and promises to never stop hustling, no matter how far his rap career goes: “Sell high, get ’em cheap, a thousand of ’em fill the streets/I’m a s-t-a-r, but I t-r-a-p,” he says. Directed by Man Filmz, the video finds Baby Money in his element, as he tours around Detroit and proves that he’s the man in his hometown.
The album’s title, Less Is More, is an ode to keeping it simple, maintaining a small circle, and staying focused on what will make you successful. “‘Less Is More’ has been my motto lately,” says Baby Money. “Everybody is always trying to do things the biggest, and run with the biggest team they can, but I think that simplicity is key to success. I don’t mean ‘more’ in the sense of more money or financial success, but a more fulfilling life. You gotta trim your circle, cause too many people demanding things from you can drain you of your time and energy.”
Less Is More is home to recent singles, like the simmering “Armageddon,” a collaboration with respected Eastside rapper G.T., and the creeping “Ten,” and makes room for 14 new songs that stand up to anything Baby Money has released in his career. From the thudding opening “F U Mean,” Baby is laser-focused, putting on a rhyme clinic: each flex is backed by airtight logic and each disrespectful snipe the product of a strict moral code. Baby is a natural collaborator with kindred spirits. On “Might Just,” the rapper trades band-counting bars with Milwaukee’s Chicken P, while on “Misfits,” Baby goes back and forth with Flint’s Rio Da Yung OG, as the two rappers compete to deliver the most outlandish punchline: “Got a brick as a brain, got a scale as a heart,” spits Baby Money. Album highlight “CWFM” lays out Baby’s hustle-hard philosophy, “Rule #1, you broke outside the club, please leave/Don’t be tappin’ on my shoulder, don’t be asking me for weed,” he spits. Featuring an additional guest appearance from OMB Peezy on the soulful “What U Wanna Eat,” Less Is More is available on all platforms via Third Eye Ent. / EMPIRE.
Since his emergence in the late 2010s, 27-year-old Baby Money developed a reputation as one of Detroit’s most exciting and skilled young rappers. He stood out even amidst a crowded scene of rappers from his state with his stankface-inducing wordplay and authoritative flexes, rhyming with the gravitas of an OG and the hunger of a young striver. He broke through onto the national confidence with street hits like “Tables Turn,” “Get Dangerous,” and the Pitchfork-acclaimed “Moncler Bubble.” Baby Money’s run earned him a deal with Quality Control in 2023, and garnered attention from Billboard in an article about the ascendant Detroit scene. After releasing several projects with QC, Baby Money is freshly independent and ready to grind, continuing his mission to rise from the West Side of Detroit to the top of the rap game.
With Less Is More out now, Baby Money starts a new chapter of his career. Baby Money will appear on select dates with Rio Da Yung OG on his “Welcome Home” Tour. Buy tickets HERE
