THE RECAP:

The rain came down on Sunday in New York City, but the artists and fans at AFROPUNK Brooklyn 2022 proved that they are fly in any weather. On the second and final day of the brand’s first Brooklyn festival since 2019, fans in ponchos and bare skin alike flocked to see superstars like Burna Boy and Lucky Daye close out the action on the Green Stage. The “African Giant” cut an impressive figure during his first headlining NY show since his history-making headlining show at MSG, while Lucky Daye showed the world why he’s one of R&B’s most talented rising stars. The festival’s second stage, the Red Stage, was just as active, bringing sets from masterful emcees Earl Sweatshirt and Mick Jenkins.

Though the rain dampened the grounds of the festival, nothing could dampen the spirits of the crowd, who showed up in their most creative fits to bask in the immaculate vibes. Whether they were dancing to DJs like Sydney Love and Kweku Sanderson, getting books signed by authors at AFROPUNK’s Rock ‘N Read, exploring the Ruffles x AFROPUNK “Own Your Ridges” maze, noshing at AFROPUNK’s Bites N Beats, or taking a breather at the Wellness Village, the Brooklyn community was ecstatic to have its favorite festival back. Fans who couldn’t make the festival in person tuned into the livestream on Twitch–the stream racked up nearly 2.4 million unique viewers, with over 23k concurrent viewers at its peak.
