The Announcement:

A vibrant celebration of Afrobeats, Amapiano, hip-hop and Global Black music, Afro Nation unites the culture for top notch events across the globe. Today, the respected festival brand announces its return to the Motor City, as it prepares for Afro Nation Detroit 2024. The second annual version of the Motor City festival promises performances by some of the most exciting musical acts from Africa and its diaspora, plus additional activations and events that pay tribute to the city of Detroit’s contribution to the global music scene. The only scheduled Afro Nation event in the United States in 2024, Afro Nation Detroit returns to Bedrock’s Douglass Site from August 17th-18th, 2024.

The inaugural Afro Nation Detroit, Afro Nation Detroit 2023, was an unstoppable party, full of brilliant music by artists of all genres. Burna Boy and Davido headlined, standing up for a Nigerian contingent that also included artists like P-Square and Victony, and South African artists like DJ Maphorisa and DBN Gogo tore it up on the Piano People Stage. The festival also brought plenty of American heavy-hitters, including Latto, Ari Lennox, Coi Leray, Masego, and local hero Dej Loaf.

Afro Nation Detroit 2023 drew tens of thousands of attendees each day to Bedford’s Douglass Site, once a historically significant housing project in Detroit that was the first federally funded housing project for African Americans in the United States and the former home of legends like Diana Ross and Smokey Robinson. Before the festival, Afro Nation hosted a series of Homecoming Conversations for industry professionals and artists, covering topics including musical innovation, entrepreneurship, and more.

Afro Nation is quickly becoming an institution in Detroit, engaging the community and presenting some of the finest music in the international scene. Stay tuned for much more information about Afro Nation Detroit, including the full lineup, in the coming weeks.
