Single: Meek Mill – “I Don’t Know” (A-Plus Burning Man Remix)
Souls of Mischief Rapper/Producer Continues Free Download Remix Series With Premiere via Noisey
In the second installment of A-Plus’ Burning Man Remix series, presented by Arnette Eyewear, the Souls of Mischief rapper/producer puts a refreshing electronic spin on Meek Mill’s hit, “I Don’t Know.” “Remixes are a tough business,” says Noisey Music, who premiered the single, adding that “A-Plus manages to chop up the song into a new context that swerves the lanes of EDM and hip-hop.” The “I Don’t Know” (Burning Man Remix) follows last month’s A-Plus’ remix of Que’s “OG Bobby Johnson.” “A-Plus is a master of texture,” Noisey says, “the sense of perpetual forward motion Plus imbued his best tracks with is still present here.”
Earlier this month, it was announced via SPIN that the Souls of Mischief had teamed up with multi-instrumentalist producer Adrian Younge for a collaborative concept album, There Is Only Now, which releases August 26. The project’s first single, the title track, debuted via Complex and features fellow legendary California rapper Snoop Dogg, who’s rhyming with the Souls for the first time ever, each entity with a respective 20+ years in hip-hop.
2014 has been a busy year for A-Plus, as in Spring he released a free instrumental album, Think Tank, in addition to his experimental dub-step/electronic album Molly’s Dirty Water. Get On Down also released a deluxe 20th anniversary edition of Souls of Mischief’s classic 93 ‘Til Infinity.

Souls of Mischief Background:
Starting with their landmark debut 93 ‘Til Infinity, Oakland’s four-person rap group Souls of Mischief has blazed the trail for hip hop’s evolution. Members Tajai, A-Plus, Phesto, and Opio have left their mark sonically, lyrically, and stylistically on Kanye West, Just Blaze, Big Sean, Big K.R.I.T., P. Diddy, Vampire Weekend, John Mayer, and many more who have cited them as cultural icons and influencers. Souls is also credited as having pioneered the independent label movement when they started Hieroglyphic Imperium Records in 1997 following their departure with JIVE Records, creating the infrastructure blueprint for other succesful independent hip hop labels. Co-founders of the Hiero label also include emcees Del Tha Funky Homosapien, Casual, Pep Love, and producer Domino. Souls also forged hip-hop’s relationship with the skate, surf, and snowboard communities after iconic skate brands included their music in their VHS videotapes in the mid-90s. The group’s creative output and legacy as a whole continues to thrive, and they show no sign of stopping.
