The Announcement:
As he prepares to make a splash with music of his own, groundbreaking artist Tay-K makes an appearance on “SPOTLIGHT / INNER CHILD,” a highlight from Dominic Fike’s brand new album HOW TO QUIT SMOKING. “SPOTLIGHT / INNER CHILD” arrives shortly before Tay-K releases his upcoming album, his first full-length since 2017’s #SantanaWorld, later this fall.
The concluding track on HOW TO QUIT SMOKING, “SPOTLIGHT / INNER CHILD” is a two-part anthem that starts with a propulsive rock instrumental, before opening up into a more contemplative section, with a swirling, contemplative guitar riff. Towards the end of “SPOTLIGHT / INNER CHILD,” Dominic Fike shares an intimate, introspective conversation with Tay-K, exploring themes of self-reflection, personal growth, belonging, and the experiences that shape who we become. Through a candid phone call, the two artists connect over elements of their troubled upbringings and the challenges of navigating life at a young age, offering a glimpse into the perspectives and personal experiences that inform their artistry. With its candid, conversational format, “SPOTLIGHT / INNER CHILD” creates space for a more personal side of both artists to emerge, moving beyond their music to explore the experiences, emotions, and reflections that exist beneath the surface.
“Stay connected to your inner child, bro,” says Tay. “When I be going through all the dark times that I be going through, I try to hang onto that youthful mindset: everything is a learning experience, everything’s wonderful.”
For Tay-K, the unexpected appearance arrives at a pivotal moment as he prepares to release a new body of music this fall. The introspective themes explored in his conversation with Fike offer a glimpse into the perspective informing his next chapter, where reflection, growth, and a deeper understanding of his own experiences help shape the narrative surrounding his forthcoming project.

Ready to make waves after staying quiet for much of his near-decade in prison, the now-26-year-old Tay-K started his new chapter with earlier this year “Everywhere I Go” and “Erupt,” released as a double single and a combined music video earlier this year, which was his first new song recorded while in prison. Earlier this fall, Tay-K made a splash with “PYD,” an irreverent and pugilistic banger inspired by Greek mythology that urges the youth to put down their straps and settle their conflicts like men. “PYD,” short for “Punch You Down,” came with a video, inspired by “The Apple of Discord,” a Greek myth about the origin of the Trojan war.
Tay-K is currently putting the finishing touches on his new album, his first-ever official album and first full-length of any kind since 2017’s #SantanaWorld. Tay-K serves as co-executive producer, alongside John Cunningham, taking an active role in shaping the project’s sound and creative vision. Over the past three years, he has collaborated extensively by phone with Cunningham, Warpstr, and other producers, being in charge of musical decisions every step of the way. His involvement extends beyond the music to the project’s creative direction, visual concepts, and artwork development, bringing his vision into both its sound and presentation.
Stay tuned for Tay-K’s next album, coming very soon.
