The Announcement:
Blessed with immaculate pipes and brilliant melodic instincts, Vory is trusted by the rap game’s A-List to deliver radio-ready jams. Today, the Grammy-winning artist and songwriter releases DONDADA, his striking new album, out now via EROS LLC / EMPIRE. Along with the album, Vory shares the music video for album highlight “SOBER.”
A confident 10-track album, DONDADA touches on the privileges and precarities of living like a boss, using immersive sonics to convey a sense of lonely luxury, at once reveling in the wonders riches provide, and worrying about the problems that money brings. For every playalistic banger like “SIAMESE,” there is a ballad like “SOBER,” an acoustic guitar-flecked ballad that reveals the loneliness behind Vory’s indefatigable facade. DONDADA is the purest showcase yet for Vory’s multi-faceted vocals, as he effortlessly switches from fast-paced flows to passionate singing to get his every emotion across.
Vory recruits a complement of high-wattage guest stars to help him achieve his DONDADA vision. Fredo Bang adds their melodic sensibilities to “RUBI ROSE,” talking a big game before Vory puts the way the bluster and sings, “how are you so fine?” 2 Chainz lends his talents to the gauzy “RELAX,” his nonchalant punchlines contrasting with Vory’s lovesick exhortations (“I wanna eat you like puppy chow!”). The album takes an introspective turn in the second half, heralded by “TALK TO YOU,” featuring the gravitas of Houston legend Trae The Truth. Featuring additional appearances from Domani and Dame Atlas, DONDADA establishes Vory as a singular voice in the game, seamlessly blending R&B vocals with hip-hop attitude and expert songcraft.
Since emerging in the mid-2010s, Vory has helped define the sound of contemporary rap and R&B with his work on the mic and behind the scenes. He scored his first hit at just 18-years-old, with his contribution to fellow Louisville native Bryson Tiller’s now-classic “Don’t,” which racked up billions of streams en route to a Diamond certification. The artist’s distinct pen helped launch further hits, like Drake’s “Mob Ties,” which peaked at #13 on the Billboard Hot 100. Vory’s talents earned the attention of some of the biggest stars in the game: he earned his first Grammy win for his contribution to Everything Is Love, the Best Urban Contemporary Album-winning project by Jay-Z and Beyoncé as The Carters. In 2020, Vory signed a joint venture with Meek Mill’s Dream Chasers, through which he released his debut studio album, Lost Souls, in 2022. The now 28-year-old polymath became a household name among hip-hop fans when he contributed songwriting and vocals to “God Breathed,” “Jonah,” and “No Child Left Behind” from Kanye West’s Grammy-nominated DONDA album. With additional credits for artists like Lil Baby, 2 Chainz, DaniLeigh, and many more, Vory has racked up 15 Platinum plaques and 4 Gold records on his written works.
Now independent and ready to push his sound forward, Vory hopes to make a major splash with DONDADA. Stay tuned.
