P-Lo Drops “Run It Back,” As He Prepares to Dominate Another Summer

The Proud Pinole, CA Native Keeps His Hot Streak Going, Returning With a New Banger After Partnering With Drake for Iceman Highlight “2 Hard 4 The Radio”

For more than a decade, artist-producer P-Lo has helped define the West Coast sound, layering bouncing basslines and speaker-knocking percussion into classics for himself and others. After making headlines and climbing charts with his recent collaboration with Drake, the Filipino-American artist returns with “Run It Back,” an energetic and compulsively danceable new banger. P-Lo takes time to throw shade at haters who try to diminish his accomplishments before launching into the new song, which gets its bounce from syncopated handclaps, thudding kicks, and an earworm of an 808 bassline. The Bay Area rap icon skates atop his own instrumental with party-positive bars, delivering a simmering anthem that could shut down a cookout as easily as a club night: “I don’t care about no Zodiac sign/When you’re with me girl, the stars will align/I got a couple things on my mind, but the only ring you’re gettin’ is when I ring your line,” he spits.
“Run It Back” continues the road to Out The Box, P-Lo’s next album, following recent singles like the triumphant and percussive “Out The Box,” and “S/O Alysa Liu,” a salute to the Olympic Gold Medal-winning Oakland native. P-Lo officially announced Out The Box earlier this week, with cinematic trailer featuring NFL legend Marshawn Lynch. One of the artist’s most ambitious and personal albums to date, Out The Box arrives later this summer via Everywhere Like Air / EMPIRE.
P-Lo made an important contribution to the year’s biggest hip-hop album, collaborating with “2 Hard 4 The Radio,” a highlight from Iceman. Paying tribute to the legendary Mac Dre, interpolating lyrics and flow from the late Vallejo artist’s 1989 classic “”Too Hard For the F@#kin’ Radio,” 5he new song continueD P-Lo’s mission to infuse his sound and the sound of the Bay Area into hip-hop’s mainstream, and continues to establish the artist as one of his region’s contemporary icons. “2 Hard 4 The Radio” became one of the album’s most popular tracks, racking up over 55 million Spotify streams, and peaking at #9 on the Billboard Hot 100, where it currently sits at #22.
On May 7th, P-Lo celebrated “P-Lo Day” in his hometown of Pinole, CA. The second annual P-Lo Day arrived one year after P-Lo received the Pinole Key To The City, in recognition of his deep community roots and global representation, and engagement with the community through school visits, mentorship, and support for local businesses and nonprofits. P-Lo is also very proud of his heritage as a Filipino-American; he earned recognition from the Recording Academy for his advocacy for AAPI musicians and creators.
Since emerging as the sonic architect of the East Bay’s HBK Gang in the 2010s, P-Lo has been a force in hip-hop, redefining the West Coast sound without losing his strong focus on uplifting his local community. Born and raised in Pinole, CA, P-Lo has crafted hits like the Platinum-selling “Act Right” for Yo Gotti and “Always” for Chris Brown, and has collaborated with artists like Kehlani, Wiz Khalifa, and YG. The album was a major moment for Bay Area hip-hop, featuring heavyweights like E-40, Too $hort, Saweetie, Kamaiyah, and many others. With music videos for highlights like “Prayer ’25” and “Had To” filmed across major San Francisco landmarks, P-Lo reaffirmed his region as a central pillar of the modern rap scene. For The Soil was P-Lo’s one of his many official partnerships with a Bay Area sports team, including his single “Do It For The Bay” ft. Saweetie, the official anthem for the San Francisco 49ers2024 season, and his status as an ambassador for the Warriors, Niners, and San Francisco Giants.
