Critical Praise:
“She’s one of the last rappers remaining whose freestyles are appointment viewing. M.A. can slip in and out of conversation with ease, delivers her punchlines in a laid-back, unbothered tone that makes every line sound like street poetry. She moves at a slow pace like she’s giving a sermon, and you lean in to make sure not a word is missed.” – Pitchfork
“Young M.A. is the real mayor of NYC” – Rolling Stone
“Young M.A Is Her Own Biggest Inspiration” – Interview Mag
“The Brooklyn MC has delivered countless knockout verses.” – REVOLT
The Announcement:
Respected across the music scene for her peerless pen game, Young M.A won’t rest until she reaches the top. The Brooklyn native culminates a long and arduous personal journey with Kween, her highly-anticipated album. Reflective, yet triumphant, Kween finds M.A processing her pain, working through hardship to emerge victorious over personal demons and industry misconceptions. The title combines the words “king” and “queen,” as used by M.A in a popular 2017 freestyle and for her charitable KWEENZ Foundation. Featuring guest spots from G Herbo, Tory Lanez, and Kavi Synatra, Kween is available on all platforms via M.A Music / 3D.
Along with the album, M.A. shares the music video for highlight song, “Still Free.” Produced by NYBangers, “Still Free” is a fierce lyrical mission statement from M.A, emphasizing that though she underwent a personal evolution, she still remains the same Kween: “Yeah I broke the rules, cause I ain’t never respect the rules/I came to play chess, you n****s is playing checker moves/A bunch of yes men, they bend over and accept the rules/Unacceptable, you grown men should be ashamed/And if I ain’t top ten, then f*ck it I came to rearrange,” she spits. Directed by Rook, the music video establishes M.A. as the Batman of the Five Boroughs, complete with an all-black Batmobile and a fully-stocked Batcave, as she waits for the signal to activate her MAB and take over the game.
After surviving a health scare and embracing her sobriety, M.A radiates an otherworldly confidence, assured in her place in the rap hierarchy and unwilling to back down from any challenge. The new album collects 15 barred-out bangers, each an opportunity for M.A to showcase her entendre-filled wordplay and forceful delivery. From the introductory song, “Therapy,” M.A is an open book, alternating dazzling flexes with perceptive moments of self-reflection, proving all the while that while she dropped some bad habits, she is still the same M.A who has been drawing crowds since her early days.
Kween is home to the boisterous recent single “Lasagna,” which racked up over 2.2 million views on YouTube since its February release, striking an ideal balance between M.A’s signature tough talk and cucumber-cool maturity. New highlights include “Pressure,” a sinister and heart-pumping duet with G Herbo, “Gyal Dem Rite,” which samples Sister Nancy’s “Bam Bam” and features a guest verse from Tory Lanez, and “Dancer,” a breezy party anthem that draws inspiration from NYC’s red hot sexy drill sound. The new album grows more contemplative in its second half, with songs like “Open Scars,” in which she strikes back at bigots and demonstrates to her doubters that numbers don’t lie, and “Hennessey Medusa,” a comprehensive chronicle of M.A’s health struggles and efforts to overcome alcohol dependency. By the closing song, “MAB Forever,” M.A resolves to make her changes permanent, pledging to trust herself and the MAB as she continues her rise.
This week, Young M.A launched Northeast run of shows, highlighted by a hometown show in Brooklyn on May 28th, just before Kween dropped on all platforms. The 5-date run, which already passed through Philadelphia and Asbury Park, NJ, continues through Hartford and Albany this weekend. Tickets are available at https://youngmamusic.com/.
With Kween out now, M.A looks to reclaim her rightful place atop the game. Stay tuned for much more.

The Background:
For more than ten years, Young M.A has been one of hip-hop’s most beloved artists, taking over the streets with her quotable missives. Her smash hit “OOOUUU” is one of the defining rap hits of the past decade, going 4x Platinum, racking up over 471 million YouTube views, peaking at #19 on the Billboard Hot 100, and inspiring remixes from every artist under the sun. Even nine years after release, the song can still shut down a function in any city across the country. “OOOUUU” is only a small part of M.A’s story–her catalog has generated more than 3 billion streams, her singles “Big” and “Pettywap” went Platinum and Gold, respectively, and she has released four full-length projects to date (Herstory, Herstory In The Making, Red Flu, Off The Yak). Beyond music, M.A has expanded into acting, with roles in the Emmy-winning TV series Mr. Robot and the acclaimed film The 40 Year Old Version, and gives back to her community via the Kweenz Foundation, which she founded with her mom. Last year, M.A stunned with her viral freestyle for “Went Legit,” a freestyle over the hit G Herbo anthem, performed during Kai Cenat x On The Radar’s Mafiathon and joined Druski on his Coulda Fest tour at the end of 2025.
