Sexyy Red releases her new album, Yo Favorite Trappa Favorite Rappa, via Rebel/gamma. Released on Sexyy’s birthday, the album is a perfect soundtrack to close out Aries Season, featuring the chant-a-long hooks, unassailable confidence, and unfiltered lyricism for which the artist is known. Yo Favorite Trappa Favorite Rappa spans 20 tracks, including Sexyy’s recent hit singles, “If You Want It” and “Hang Wit A Bad B*tch” ft. Key Glock.
With over 26 million streams to date, “If You Want It” peaked in the Top 20 at Urban Radio, generating conversation with its scintillating, self-directed music video, which features a show-stopping cameo from Chief Keef. With over 317k creates and 1.8 billion views on TikTok, 28.5 million cross-platform streams, and 5.6 million YouTube views to date, “Hang Wit A Bad B*tch” peaked in the Top 50 of YouTube’s Top Music Videos chart, and is currently impacting Urban Radio.
Beyond the hit singles, Sexyy brings her A-game for Yo Favorite Trappa Favorite Rappa, channeling the down-and-dirty sound that she molded out of influences like Gucci Mane, Chief Keef, Boosie, and more, while adding new elements to her formula. Hosted by mixtape veteran DJ Holiday, the album finds Sexyy in her element, shaping the sound with help from some of the best producers in the game, including Metro Boomin, Zaytoven, Tay Keith, ATL Jacob, Mac Fly, Maaly Raw, and many more. Shawn Ferrari, who had multiple credits on Sexyy’s breakout tape Hood Hottest Princess, is the most common producer, his seismic trap sound undergirding some of Sexyy’s rawest bars to date. “Richer Den Alla My Opps,” Sexyy’s new mission statement, features production from Lil Yachty, with his close associates Mitchgonemad and Wesgonemad, while Yachty and Earlonthebeat helm “NDA.”
Sexyy uses the new album as an opportunity to spread her wings, finding new ways to expound upon her favorite topics. Highlight song “Attached” lays her trademark ad-libs and nonchalant flow over stadium-sized 808s and a twisted brass fanfare, demonstrating why men can’t leave her alone. The ATL Jacob-produced “Rackies” is an addictive throwback to the ringtone rap era, using a sample of “Laffy Taffy” and bringing the sound to the modern era. “Top Notch,” produced by Shawn Ferrari, is a propulsive and uber-confident anthem about feeling like a perfect ten, and “Team Lil Booty,” a reunion with Sexyy’s “Whim Whamiee” collaborator Pluto, declares a formal end to the age of the BBL. Sexyy revisits her pre-fame era with “Hood B*tch 2,” the sequel to a highlight from 2021’s Ghetto Superstar Sexyy, asserting that no matter how far she rises, she will always be the same Sexyy. Notably, album highlight “Cut Like Us” features guest appearances from Sexyy’s two sisters, Pretty Pinkk and Ghetto Beisha, who deliver standout verses of their own.
Sexyy performed new songs from the album in front of a massive crowd during her electric, late night Coachella set, welcoming special guests like Central Cee, who dropped by to perform “Guilt Trippin” and “Band4Band,” and Lizzo who showed up during “Whim Whamiee” and added her trademark flute to the live debut of “Rackies.” Saluting her hometown of St. Louis with a set design that featured a representation of the Gateway Arch, Sexyy’s late night set was a raucous party, as fans shook what their mommas gave them and shouted along to songs from “Pound Town” to “Get It Sexyy” to “SkeeYee” and more. The set was praised by Pitchfork as a highlight of Weekend 1. With Yo Favorite Trappa Favorite Rappa out in the world, Sexyy plans to go even bigger during Weekend 2. Catch her in the Desert once again on April 17th.
